Uncanny X-Men, technically, but that issue was a tie-in to AvX. Namor did beat Cage and used his body as a weapon against She-Hulk, one-shotting her from behind.

Yeah, it was clear from the start that he'd lose to Iron Man because the writers are all "haha we're so clever the man in metal beats the master of magnetism" like idiots, but at least he was winning until he was distracted by the Phoenix, and got some good feats like drawing power from suns and shit.

I've never read that story, but yeah, his fans always point out that he did get upgraded.

But it still doesn't explain his MUCH improved performance... truth is Bendis had a mancrush on him and shoved the character down our throats.
