Wow. Excellent evaluation. All the Thing needed to do was put its fingers inside a guys head and it's biology did the rest. It's studying of the man in that very scene showed possibly more of a psychological studying of the human mind. But do we have proof that the Thing could instant take on the celllular structure of anothr being instantly? If burning the Thing results in destruction you would think being separated and absorbed would also. This is peak Blob and these creatures are going all out! I reckon the Blob's form is more advanced than humans and dogs. The 90's Blob was part of a crystaline race that separates to into a geletanous form to get nutrients. It showed smarts by killing prey through pipes and taps. And showed stealth by hovering over prey on roofs before becoming large enough to be more viscious. But this is 50's Blob.
The question still remains if the Thing can become the Blob fast enough to counter it's overwhelming absorbtion. And it doesn't have alot of time. Especially once the Blob starts to realise the Thing is adapting.
1:34 shows (unfortunately briefly, I apologise but this is the best clip available) the things cells assimilating. We see later in the movie the thing is able to attack itself to a man by pressing their faces together, the thing then in that scene seems rapidly takes over the man entirely. A detached hand is also able to covert an entire man by attaching itself to his face (facehugger style) and push it’s cells into the man, speeding up the process given it was just a small fragment of a man converting an entire man.
Seperating it is the problem. It works on a cellular level. So unless you are unfathomable good with a blade you have no chance. The blob, being so impervious to harm would feed the thing this very strength and cause the process to become utterly irreversible and unstoppable.
Since we have seen that just a small part of the thing can take over an entire an entire being, and we know how it works specifically we know that if even the thing only gets a few cells. It wins. The blob would not be able to do anything about it.
Also how do you come to the conclusion the blob is capable of this kind of intelligence? “Realise the thing is adapting” I must not have paid very close attention to the movie if this was shown somewhere.
