Wow, exactly what I was thinking. Great post. I personally find it much more comforting for a person to do the right things on their own and not because they are afraid of reprisal from God or whoever their spiritual leader may be.

This gets right to it. I can't really trust someone who only does what they're doing because of authority.

Agreed. I explain this to my fellow Christians but they just don't get it. They think that they should rely on a Skyfather for inspiration to always do good.

I still don't get this thread though. If Atheists don't believe that there is a God to judge them, then how can they be afraid of judgement?

the questions is whether or not atheists are atheits because theya re afraid of judgment and find it recomforting to not believe in god. this is, of course, retarded.

Lol. To go even further, I often think how if I were God, theists would all come across as self-serving brown nosers anway, so when I here threats about the judgment from theists it's kinda hard not to smile.

I'm a christian who believes in the Bible and it's command not to judge others. I won't judge people's souls but I do wonder about their minds. I can't comprehend why people find the idea of a creator hard to believe when we have such order (apart from suffering caused by humans) in the universe from atoms to galaxies. Science can't be applied to God but faith is what I'm discussing. Believing in God means that you believe we have a greater purpose than just survival. If you believe that there is no God there is no higher purpose for anything.

Saying that there is no God suggests that there is no right and wrong except what we define as right and wrong, so it is a strong statement indeed. It suggests that we should not fear judgement.

What prevents people from believing that were created with power and responsibility on purpose? Is it fear of being judged by the Creator? If that's not it I'd like to know what other possible reasons there are.

claims like yours prevent people from beleiving.

more seriously, if you are truly an atheist then you do not beleive in a creator, in which case you are not scared to be judged b him.

your claim is insultingly arrogant.

They should be.

That was an eye opener for me. Thanks 🙄

It is more likely that Christians are Christians because they fear judgment.

If judgment existed at the end of your time Im sure everyone would be afraid or at least worried.

Why would someone believe there was judgment at the end of their time?

Lol why do you even bother asking? I said IF for a reason. No one has the capability of knowing such a thing at all.

edit: but to answer for the **** of it. Its because their religion has lead them to believe that. You already know the answer. stoned

What im saying is that the main question itself is pretty redundant. Its like asking if jewish kids cry when santa doesnt bring them a present on christmas.

The answer is even simpler: Control. The idea of a judgment day goes much further back then Christianity. It was a common idea in the time of Pharaohs.

No I judge people all the time.

So does the idea of Christ himself, in fact! 😛

So? Your judgement is not the same as the type of judgement refereed to by the title of this thread.

My eyes my eyes...where am I today. No, not really depends what kind of judgement we are talking about. I've always been a worrior for good or for evil, either way I'm going to make myself ruler.

I don't see how this furthers the discussion.
