Black Ice (not music)

Have you had any bad experiences with it?

I hate the shit but it does have its funny moments.

This is racist.

It ices at least once every year, in Oklahoma. Sometimes multiple times.

I have to deal with this, every year.

That said, I'd still walk the 2.5 miles to the gym to work out, if the roads were un-drive-able (if we were "speaking" German, I could actually make that a word 🙁 )

Every year, I spend some of my evenings helping people out of ditches or out of their cars. It's dangerious, too. But, wouldn't I want to be rescued if that were me? That's my logic. And I HAVE been rescued, before. So it works out.

Who... who are you?

Bananas have lots of potassium. So that's a good question.

oh, you poor, poor man

Yea but by walking not driving.I once sliped on it while waiting to start my job and holding a lunch box in one hand and slipped and almost got knocked out.
Good thing I did not and my butt pretty much hurt the whole work day.

Not snow, ice. Where the temperature floats around 30-32 and it freezes to everything knocking power out and the ability to travel without walking in cleats. lol

All images were taken from Oklahoma ice storms.

Driving on 24 inches of powder snow is much easier than driving on even a single inch of ice. In oklahoma, we're talking multiple inches of ice. It is because of the temperatures hovering around freezing, causing the ran to fall as "freezing rain."

And, yes, we see the 2 or more feet of snow, as well.

I would love to live in an area that got lots of snow...but rarely ice.

Interesting.

I just googled and it looks like you get ice storms, too.

Looks similar to the ice storms we see here.

I'm not sure why you are trying to "out-winter" Canada ddm...

yes, being from a country which is covered in snow and ice for 6 months of the year, I am familiar with the concept of "ice storms". I haven't been in Winnipeg for a full winter (we've had a foot of snow on the ground for 3 weeks though), but in southern ontario we'd get a couple a season, it is sort of normal up here.

Though, I can imagine it being worse there, we have a lot of infrastructure set up to deal with snow/ice removal, which probably isn't as good where you are.

like, ice storms are so common here that we don't even really notice until it is so bad it shuts down the province of Quebec, which I think happened in '96 (?).

I'm not. Not even close. This is about ice, not winter.

Also, it would appear that you are, though, which is odd.

Your first post about it was condescending (yes, I know it was a joke):

I then indicated that it wasn't just some redneck whining about a tad bit of freezing rain by posting some gnarly icestorm images.

You replied with:

This was supposed to address any concerns or questions I would have about why you're proud of your icy weather, right?

So I looked it up and, indeed, I found your icy sh*t to be comparable to OKs and agreed that it gets pretty bad up there.

So, that's not "out-wintering" at all.

This is true, but the key problem also appears to be a problem there, as well: power lines that are above ground.

The power companies cite that it would cost about $1 billion to place the electrical infrastructure underground. The costs for the electrical company, alone, goes over a hundred million dollars some years. Quite easily, over a billion dollars of damage occur in loss of profits, medical costs, and so forth. I do not see why they do not foot the bill. Oh, wait, I know why: there's no competition. No competition, no need to invest in infrastructure beyond keeping up with population growth. This is also a problem with cable providers, too.

eh, its part of our national identity...

Hahahahahaahahhaahahahhaaaa, to the both of you, I live in California, the Bay Area to be exact, bad winter here is some rain, some wind and the temp may drop as low as 35* in the dead of night.

It's 11:20am here now, it's winter, temp is 52*, should rise to around 60-65* by 1:00 and it's sunny with a few clouds.

Suck it.

You can suck it! We dont get earthquakes.
