Yes.

What if Skyrim went portable o-o

I thought I'd bump this since this news arrived.

So now modders for Skyrim can create mods that can after verification from Valve can be paid for to download. And as far as I know Valve takes 75% of the profits.

I think it is silly personally.

Thoughts anyone?

75% is way too steep a cut. Otherwise, I don't have a huge problem with it. That the creators get paid for all their hard work is a great thing as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone who thinks they are entitled for people to give them free enhancements to their game ("mods"😉 is a homofaggot, but yeah 75% to Valve is stupid, and easily avoided by setting up a paywall elsewhere for mod creators.

Personally? I won't pay for any mods, but that's because I'm an amoral miser.

It's been quite hectic recently, loads of people have been buying the mods then uploading it to the nexus.

And there has been a bit of controversy. One mod that was advertised by Valve had actually used parts from multiple mods without permission and got struck down.

I see what you mean about paying and stuff for mods. The only trouble is if it becomes too widespread it could make things worse. I mean right now it's okay but some people (me included at one time) had over 150 mods (187 to be precise). And I can't imagine I'd be able to afford them all if monetization had been introduced.

But then the argument that not every mod would be monetized plays in.

I dunno I mean it's conflicting. I'd be happy to pay if it was like a huge conversion mod (like the guy that got hired by Bungie for making the Skyrim conversion). Or the people who overhaul Fallout, Morrowind etc. I can understand that. It's just that soon it's gonna be like you'll have so many swords that'll be up for £3.

But then I don't have to buy them so why am I worrying?

Ah guys I don't know what to think. I'm split right in the middle here.

Do I sound crazy with what I'm saying or is it reasonable to you 2?

I get what you are saying, and it sucks that we will have to pay. But at the end of the day, the creators put time and effort into creating their mods so I don't see why they shouldn't be granted some compensation. Don't get me wrong, it sucks but I'm fine with it. Ultimately, we're not entitled to any content that isn't in the official release.

Yeah this rings with me.

I mean in someways we should be grateful that a lot of people aren't charging.

I mean imagine how much the person who made Fallout: Brazil could charge.

Or the person who made it possible to merge Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas into one game

Look at this nerd who thinks pirating mods won't become a thing now.

The one thing I'm not torn about in all of this, is that Valve/Steam/Bethesda is a bunch of greedy *****, that will take 75% for a product (the mods) they did not create. That I personally find to be appalling along with the fact that now some people are going to tesnexus to copy material from there to steamworkshop in order to spin gold on anothers hard work.

Now, should Authors get payed for their work? Yes/no/maybe, I mean on tesNexus the option to donated money to the authors already exist, and I have already used that function a couple of times. But some mod authors disbles it on their own mods, not wishing to get any sort of financial benefit out of the work they have created.

😉

Skywind for days, son.

Anyone acfually made any mods for Skyrim?

I made myself "The Eternal Champion" Follower from TES: Arena.

Also, the RS Gods Pack, adds Saradomin and Zamorak to your game.

Bit of the old Sk'rim 'n' that

Question, does anybody else disregard the fast travel function entirely, other than for bulk buying and selling (and sometimes not even then)?

I've played many without it. When you've played Morrowind. Which has no fast travel whatsoever you get used to it.

Plus to me I like the exploration side of never using fast travel.

It's an awful system that sets up an awful precedent and I hope it goes away forever.

I have a feeling that Valve and Bethesda are doing it to reignite interest of the more skilled modders with the lure of $ Carrots.
