This movie I think just tapped into an insane marketing ploy. Just have it crossover with something. If someone came out and said "This takes places in the Firefly-verse" people would go ape****. It wouldn't matter if it was about an autistic boy overcoming the obstacles to win the Noble Prize for dubstepping. They'd go in droves, and look for Nathan Fillion in every frame.

A fair bit, by the looks of it at this stage... and Sir Ridley Scott is the 'they' in this instance....and that bodes very well indeed, as he seems by all accounts determined to tell an original story.
But I agree with Digi that the marketing is playing on the Alien Saga connection to put bums on seats no doubt.

Well, I don't know that they happened upon it on purpose. But either way, it's working.

as far as my thoughts on the subject of Prometheus.
Why is everybody saying it'll ruin the saga?.. im pretty sure we've already had AVP, AVP2, alien resurrection, and some would say alien 3.
I liked them, I liked them all, Because its some Sci-Fi films that stroke my nerdy erection the way they should.
i love watching movies, good, bad, AVP2.. well, maybe not AVP2... But still.
Im going to watch it. I'll be pretty, hopefully it'll have a good story.
i dont ask a lot from my films.
Good acting.
Good story.
Good FX.
a good score would be nice, so would good directing.
If it can give me those things, I'll enjoy it more so.
if it cant, im still happy to have entered whatever world the film tried to show me.

Someone like Ridley Scott going back to his roots, this movie will rock. It's been such a long time since a desent scifi movie has graced the screen. i'm looking forward to it.
we get to see the space jockey and the chair thing, and my guess would be the queen popping out of his chest.
It's being scored by Marc Streitenfeld he has worked with scott before.

It has a great cast so that is good.
I'm with you on the AVP thing. i enjoyed the first one and the 2nd not so much, but i did like the predator hunting down the aliens, the humans in it were pointless.

AVP sucks balls the size of Mars... Both of them.
This looks like something that is really quite original and stunning without totally depending on the franchise elements... I can only hope...
And if Scott succeeds he can show George Lucas how to revisit a franchise that launched his career... I really really look forward to this.
