I've played a mixed magic toon, which is what the Grimoire basically is.

Sucks they don't give you the Arcane Construct, that's a decent pet and can tank for you.

Int is great for reducing power cost and the lowering the recharge time on your sigils, which is a huge bonus as those spells kick ass. Presence only really boost your healing powers in your build.

There are also Primary Defense items starting at high 20s/low 30's that give you a +30% (or so) chance to dodge, also great for damage mitagation for a soft toon like yourself. Though imo, a soft toon's best chance of surviving is having a very high offense. Kill them before they can kill you.

it tells me it is giving me some damage boost? EDIT: ah, now I remember why I like pre. I TP into groups of mobs, hit my sigils, and my threat is so low, nobody attacks me. I can heal my sigils while enemies attack. Same as pet tanks, huge damage, they just don't have the HP. Against groups of 3-4 mobs it is super effective. Really only have problems with ranged bosses who con yellow or higher (one of the bosses in Canada gave me huge problems last night)

If I'd had the choice, I would have gone INT/REC, to get my energy equilibrium up. as it stands, I'm barely over half.

I'm thinking I'm going to get to 40 for the retcon, then either get a lifetime membership if it looks like the game wont tank in 2 years, or just go subscription. This "microtransaction" stuff is too tempting, and at 15 USD for 500 points, I'd spend way more than the subscription cost per month.

BTW, just got 25 and my first Nemesis. I'll post pics when I get home, its pretty funny 🙂 boy am i clever

Your damage bonuses scale off your Super-Stats no matter what. You could be INT/REC and a melee toon, and you'd still get a damage bonus based on your Super-Stats. Though I think having high STR would also net you further damage to any of your melee attacks in the type of build.

So for you:

INT gives you power-cost discount and recharge reduction + damage bonus

PRE boost your healing + damage bonus.

Pets used to scale off INT and PRE for damage output and health points, but they changed so they scale off your super-stats in the large update a few months ago. They might have gone back though or made it a mixture, they scale off your SS and can get extra bonuses from high INT and PRE. I'd have to look into it.

Too bad you're not allowed DEX, with your passive-defense (the aura of primal something or other) bonus to stats, you'd be one critical hitting mofo.

Gratz on the 25, making Nems is fun.

I'll try to be on at around 6:00 PST, if you're on, look for me. Be fun to run a couple of missions. I have a lvl 17 I could Sidekick up or a couple high 20's I could Sidekick down.

@ Blair: I'm ready for that mission you were telling me about; the one we have to team up for.

very interesting...

the negative threat boost from pre is nice though, I must say

ya, I get a passive i think 43 point boost to all my stats... its pretty bad ass.

I do get critical hits a lot though. I guess I can't compare it to anything as this is my first toon, but it seems frequent

I'm a bit confused how the threat works with PRE, I know if you heal and have high PRE, you become a massive target, as I've had a support/healer toon before. But it is supposed to lower threat in certain builds, just not sure how it works exactly.

Also forgot, INT helps you see hidden foes, which can be helpful as getting jumped can lead to a quick death. If you have a high INT and an item or two that boost your perception, you're able to see teleporters should you be in a PVP fight. Can be useful and funny when you tag them as they try and buy time by teleporting.

You probably have a dex at around 60-70 at your lvl with that boost, unless you have an item that specifically grants you high DEX. IIRC, 70ish dex is around 15% crit change.

I'm @robtard. Not sure which toon I'll be on. Probably my lvl 29 Ice. "Dr. Glacial". if you hit the social button, there's a search.

What's your 'name@name'?

for characters in the "support" role, it increases threat, for anyone else, it decreases it. I'm not sure if it amps my threat to heal, all I know is that my sigils can normally hold aggro against a group of mobs, even if I'm attacking them (sometimes, I suppose)

are you on the KMC chat channel?

Ah, that makes sense. As my healer could somehow hold aggro better than the DPS beast I was teaming in. In Zombie Apocalypse (a PVP/PVE instance and damn fun), that toon was a constant target.

I'll see about sending you a friend invite. Forget how when you can;t actually see the person, but I'll figure it out.

Not sure how to get on the KMC chat channel, the chat settings seemed to have changed a bit since this last update. I'll try to get on it. Is it called "KMC chat"?

No. I did invite you to it though, its just "KMC". Go to the chat settings area (little bubble on the right side of the chat box). Then just switch to "KMC" on your chat selections on the left.

Aight.

So can you only play archetypes when playing for free? How restricted is it?

Less selection of powers. You pick an archtype and the powers are already picked for you for the most part as you level.

The paying members get to select any powers they wish as they level.

Ok can you do something like add tech to a magic based character or add psi to brick based character?

I use the magic-user archetype, but the costumes I picked are all robotic.

You could make a controller/support psi character with "The Mind" archetype

http://www.champions-online-wiki.com/wiki/The_Mind

and then make the character look like a brick, but without paying you wouldn't have the option to give them tank like abilities. or, you could do it the other way I guess, use "psi" looking costume pieces on a brick archetype

I keep hearing that the Mind archetype is underpowered (solo) until you hit level 32 and then you basically become a god. hmm

Anyway, Deadline, you can buy additional things/powers. Its free to play (as in no monthly subscription) but you can pay for powerups in terms of additional content, powers (pets, sidekicks, travel powers, etc), and the list goes on. So I'm guessing you could add some tech or magic to any character you wanted long as you pony up some cash.

The powers and defenses they give you make you not a very hard hitter and pretty soft, so it would be harder to solo. That build is more of a hero-support build.

LVL 32 gives you Ego Storm, which does area-of-effect damage while simultaneously holding your enemies, it's a great power; especially once you rank it. To add to it, Telepathic Reverberation which that build gets at 22 means your energy pool is refreshed for each target you hold. So you can spam and hold/kill mobs over and over. The higher ranked enemies can still give you trouble though, as they're harder to hold.

I wouldn't say that...I've been able to solo everything with my Telepath/Telekinetic and she's still like lvl 13

Finally tried this after d/ling it about a week ago. Seems alright so far, having not played MMOs before.

I'm now at 38 with my Grimoire, and the only stuff I haven't soloed are the 5 man missions

Lol, I've been back for a while, just haven't been in the GDF since. I'm mainly just in the off-topic in the comic vs forum, and lurk everywhere else.
