why?

why does the world focus so much of teaching smart kids ,and leaving "slower kids" to gain knowledge from other "slower" people???

we all have brains thus we all have the capacity to take in information right?
but we only give information to "bright" kids
schools for the gifted and whatnot WTF
why cant they just teach everyone

imagine a world where everybody is a qualified teacher
just imagine

I disagree with your assessment. We (in the developed world) do try to teach everyone, sometimes at the expense of more gifted students.

Of course the reason to give special focus to gifted individuals is clear, as their potential is far higher. Some people just do not have the ability to understand certain more complicated ideas about the world.

Though that said, I do agree with you that everyone should get the chance and that information should be freely available to everyone who wants it (go Stallman).

They should teach the less gifted students more.

I'm considered a gifted student, and I hate all the work that I have to do. If I'm considered smarter than the average kid then why the hell do I have to work more?

Really random thread.

Maybe I'm incorrect, and if I am, forgive me, I went to school in the UK. But doesn't America have that "No Child Left Behind" thing that is suppose to help the slow kids?

Honestly I don't understand the complaint. In school all the kids were taught exactly the same, the ones that decided to slack off and not do homework failed and the ones who did the work passed.

At some point you have to take person responsibility. If you only spend an hour with your studies and during that short hour your mobile is ringing or your iPod is on, you're not going to accomplish much.

That would be nice but not about to happen.Instead people are separted in different classes if they are like me who learns at a slower pace then the smart kids.

Well why wouldnt the children who learn slower go to a different class? The kids that learn faster go to a different class as well!

so its a parenting issue then?

Not only a parenting issue but the individuals issue as well! I swear, I'll never understand the obsession with pushing the blame on everyone besides the person it's about.

because our surroundings affect us mentally and physically more than we'll ever know

So...instead of trying to better yourself and rise above that situation, you'd rather blame the situation for why you are the way you are?

In the state of Ohio, I can say that if a child has an iep signed by a doctor. Then that child must be accompanied by an extra adult in their studies.
And the smart kids do go to a different class, the kids who are a sophomore and already have they're geometry credit because the took it their freshmen year, because they took their algebra 1 their 8th grade year take advanced algebra 2 their sophomore year which Is a class ahead. So they learn a whole class ahead then the kids who are learning geometry their sophomore year. Understand?

Another reason I'll never understand Americans. i always thought Americans were hard workers. I guess I didn't realize that cashing a welfare check was considered hard work to most of them.

pfff.. your average american is lazy, full of false sense of accomplishment.

your real americans are now few in numbers the only hard working ones now are the ones not even born here but who work hard without believing they deserve it by right of birth...

the problem is the technological advancement and everyone wanting a blue collar job of making lots of money with as little work as possible and shunning actual honest work for an honest wage.

I agree, and I believe it begins with schooling. You Americans take so much time off school it truly amazes me. No wonder your so far down the list academically. You take 3 months off during summer!

I got a week! It's crazy...

the school time off thing is a mix of old outdated farming custom and religious and national holidays which is retarded imo.

i realize a few days or weeks of missing lesson one forgets what they learned prior to their time off let alone after summer.

then the education standard just keeps dropping, at times they raise it till they realize it's hard for everyone so they drop it again to save face.

i remembered when algebra was all the math you needed to graduate highschool and get into college. in my day we weren't allowed to use calculators let alone laptops in high school or even used or had then in college classes.

when i quit my education and tried to return to college/university the requirement was raised algebra 1& 2 was no longer enough but required trigonometry, geometry. i had to take a non credited class just to get back in and it took me a month and a 1/2 just to take the math entrance exam to get back in.

the worst part is that highschool sidesteps these exams by letting their student get credit by taking other classes like metal shop or wood shop as their math credit requirement which doesnt even help them at all in college.

i am pissed that i had to work harder for my grades and education the kids today still bypass the standard that is set before them.

now my nephew went to a private school in mexico at 8 he was speaking english, spanish and french fluently was already being taught algebra and as much thrash talking america does about other countries being poor or behind by middle/highschool kids are doing college equivalent math in their country.

it's an embarrassment b/c it continues through out life as an adult. at work you have management/supervisors milking one days work into a week. I've had ppl in the past tell me to slow down doing payroll /work hour count or filing.

the america business ethic is a joke embarrassment it reward meritocracy and worse that it is a like mind mentality everyone keeping each other in check so that the higher ups dont notice one guy shining to brightly and exposing everyone else for their sh$# baggishness

Absolutely, my cousin is 13 and has lived in america her whole life. When I went to visit I found out that, not only was her school time filled with nothing but texting, tweeting, and facebooking, but she was in elementary math - and failing-, and was also failing english.

The school told her that a foreign language was an elective. An ELECTIVE? It was a requirement my entire schooling career. I'm fluent in 9 languages. I have been around the world, I have a 4 year university degree, and my math skill are perfect.

It's truly an embarrassment. She says that school is too hard. Maybe it wouldn't be if she'd turn of the damn mobile

i blame a lot of ppl some more then others and yes, the single individual also carries a lot of the weight but he isnt alone you can only blame some one for so much.

i only blame parents to a very small extent.
the individual for a quarter of it.
educators hold another quarter more so then the student
society in general holds the rest of the Sh#$@pile.

ppl have to understand that american teachers are just horrible most just check in and check out for their paycheck who happen to be union and usually arrogant young out of college kids who are passing through who dont really care or monotone and speak to the class as if they have taken the same lvl of education rather then realizing they are the ones suppose to help raise their education.

i've had teachers who have annoyingly replied to hand raising and questions as it already explained it, figure it out, i am not repeating myself.

America is just a gleaming chocolate wrapped sh#$ bar that we present to the the rest of the world hiding the feces that makes up the inside that only we know using it to convince ppl how great we are.

historically most of are greatest thinkers arent even american born but ppl who were lured here through various promises or even forced "nazi scientist" 😇

we buy what we want or need.

Not only that but the bloody internet. I mean, you never have to read another text book again. There are websites that have people on there that will right papers for you. Kids need to realize that if they dont do the work now, it will be damn near impossible in the future.

It's bullocks. I to this day do not have a tweet account, face book, nor a myspace. I am against all of them due to the amount of time that they consume from the children. Do you honestly think anyone cares where you are or what you're doing every second of everday?

You want to tweet that your math teacher is a snore and is making no sense? Why dont you stop tweeting and ****ing listen to him.

Here is what you do. Go to the person that has the HIGHEST grade point average in the class, ask him/her what he does to get his grades so high and follow his lead! I guarentee they'll be sitting closer to the front of the room and after school they spend several hours studying.

internet does consume a lot of time from everyone kids and adults.

i do enjoy the easy access to information but no one really uses it for that.. Porn and networking are the main usage.
