i think odg hit it on the head--will power is only part of the equation. overcoming his fears is the other. supes' fears have been mentioned before. fear of letting people down, not saving everyone. he's been afraid of hurting people when he uses his full powers. i don't think it's a given he'd be as great as hal. those fears are all part of what makes him such a great character. *shrug*

I think it is to show that whilst he has fear, the whole point of a GL is that they need to overcome it.

I.E, he overcomes the Parallax/fear incarnate by his willpower(a thing that functions in GL ring).
Sure, you can say there are differences between a GL ring and a Yellow ring, but I think the point is Superman can and did overcome great fear by his willpower, so the "overcome their own fear" probably isn't a good argument to make. Maybe you can argue he is (relatively)lacking of imagination, or doesn't know some more exotic powers of the ring. But the point is "overcome their own fear" shouldn't be a problem IMO

Anyway, I always thought that people disliked it when I went 'against the spirit of the thread'. Here, I would have assumed OP envisaged Superman would at least be a competent ring wielder, not some noob.
Although, saying that, rookie Lanterns are powerless against the colour yellow because they need to beat their fears, whilst Superman has proven he can beat...well, the embodiment of fear. So he should at least be better than a rookie.

i think it's the KEY point. will power AND the ability to overcome his own fears is what is needed for the green. he would never gave been afraid of parallax so he had no need to overcome fear of him. again, using a yellow ring isn't the same as a green. and again not saying he couldn.t using one doesn't imply he could use the other though. they all run off willpower after all.
