those will s^ck

New acadamy sounds promising.

DC really is going all-batman ^^

That said, Gotham Academy sounds like a fun concept *and* Becky Cloonan is a good creator who I'm a fan of, so I expect that one to be awesome.

The sudden influx of Bat-material is to commemorate his 75th anniversary. *FlashFact

Anyway, I don't know if this was posted, but it is terrible news regardless: Green Arrow gets a new creative team in October.

DC making piss-poor decisions just to chase a buck. Again. 👇

At least with these bat titles will feature new characters and have it's own voice. the GA news is sad, but it was Lemire's choice to leave the book. He mentioned he was going to leave sometime after the Richard Dragon arc.

Well, it's more likely because of this info.

"The average sales for the DCU and DC as a whole increased, mainly due to the debut of Batman Eternal and its four issues taking the place of much-lower selling titles from the Batman Universe. While this points a way forward—cancel your low-selling titles and replace them with titles starring Batman—it isn’t one that increases line diversity and tries out new properties. If you look at the 1 year comparisons for the DCU, most all are -20% or worse. Increases in sales have come by canceling old titles and debuting new titles; which means that DC can’t even hold titles steady, let alone show any kind of sustained growth."

I.e. DC is becoming the Batman company.

DC outright stated in a press release that they were launching so much batman-related media(ie. animated films, comics, toys, games, etc.) to commemorate his 75th anniversary... although i wouldn't be surprised if the info you posted was the underlying reason.

Yea, it's a good excuse to be sure. It's just rough if you're into non-Bat stuff which is shrinking to accommodate and is likely to continue to shrink.

If DC wanted to increase their sales, launching something like Gotham Academy isn't the way. We already have seen bat titles such as Batwing and Birds of Prey not sale well.

They need to relaunch something Batman Inc. to do that. 😛

Marvel is doing it with Avengers and X-Men as being their only titles that get a sales bump, so DC is watching closely.

They could try bringing back Cassandra Cain...

Sales chart of the same month

Well, Spidey, Daredevil, Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Fist...

One area we very much agree on ^^

I think they're going to bring her back in Batman Eternal. Hinted by Snyder on twitter.

Most characters that aren't related to Avengers, Spidey, Batman, or Superman are generally safe. That's why they slap a "Avengers" or "Batman" on the title, even though he's not even in it.

DC has been very diverse lately. Just look at the titles a decade ago, compared to today.

they should have already done that, so hopefully they will

Several writers have pushed for Cass for years. I'm not going to hold my breath til she's on the page 🙂

Comics from April 2004
Comics from May 2004

Robin (solo teen book, something we lack in the DC line now), JSA (legacy hero book, also missing), New Frontier (remember that one Retro feel? That was good!), Firestorm, Legion, Richard Dragon, Seaguy, Plastic Man, Hawkman, Another Nail and Birthright (Mm, good elseworlds! Not just one, but two real classics!), Lobo Unbound, for some main DC ones.

Plus *way* more vertigo/other sub imprint books:

Promethea, Bite Club, Team Achilles, Authority (two authority books), Wildcats 3.0 (one of the best runs of the book, back when Wildstorm was really good), Sandman Presents, Rose & Thorn, Lucifer (Lucifer!), Y the Last Man, Tom Strong (Love that one, so upbeat heroism!), Arrowsmith, Astro City, Robotech, Losers, Fallen Angel, Light Brigade, Human Target, plus a couple I didn't notice at the time. More kids books too, both Superman and Batman had 'Adventures' books in addition to the show-Titans book of the time, plus they did the Powerpuff Girl and Samurai Jack comics back then.

Stop talking about a decade ago, you're making me miss those old days and their bounty of DC comics ^^

Fair enough on the Cassandra Cain thing. I don't get why DC hates her so much, TBH.

I was mainly talking about their Super hero books. Not the sub imprints. Fact is, they have more diversity in that area. Especially before the relaunch.

DC had a solo teen book. It was called VIBE. And it was awesome. They have a team teen book now that features the Forever People. People just need to know where to find these books. And smaller characters like BB, Vibe, and Forever people won't sell in the big numbers, no matter which team is on it.

Liked Sinestro and The Phantom Stranger last week. Sucks they are canceling the Phantom Stranger's comic! Just reading GL, GL New Guardians, Sinestro, The Phantom Stranger and The Sandman right now. Might stop reading GL and since Phantom Stranger is ending I will be down to just Sinestro, The Sandman and GL New Guardians. DC saving me money that's fine!

Now that you said that, there will be a new Trinity of Sin series!

And a Lobo series.

I would say they had increased before the relaunch, yea, but their peak was probably the 5~3 year ago period.

Right now, I do feel that 10 year ago list surpasses the current.
