DCU gets remade - all books are #1s, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee on Justice League, more

^ Definitely. Hope it lasts...

Blank slate also opens the door for them to be far more creative, which is a win for everyone who can accept change.

The main thing I'm happy about with this relaunch is that so far it has tremendously boosted sales for DC.

Hopefully they'll carry into the cool books, with Adam Strange, R.E.B.E.L.S. etc.

A couple pages form Deathstroke.

The main thing is that a bunch of the books are actually really good. Sales are cool and all, but it wouldn't be good if the books weren't accepted.

And some of the best is yet to come, IMO. I Vampire, Franky, Snyder's Batman, WW, Blackhawks, Batwoman, etc...

Yup looks good, here is what the recent eBay sales have been for the new DC comics. They are already putting bids and sales up for Batman and Robin which is nice! Getting Batman and Robin, Red Lanterns, Green Lantern and maybe Superboy and Batwoman tomorrow.

Also have been wondering who the new threat is that is coming up. Keep it interesting DC Comics thats what people want!

Some brief reviews on books this week.

Suicide Squad 1:
This isn't as bad as we all thought it might be. I actually enjoyed the issue. Like I said in the Suicide Squad thread, it's not Ostrander's Suicide Squad, but Glass does a good job with this first, introductory issue. Will I be getting the second issue? Yes. The story is well told and has a cool twist ending and the art is pretty good, too. And the costumes aren't as bad as I feared. Harley Quinn actually works, in my opinion, and Deadshot is about as good as the last variation on the classic costume in the last Deadshot miniseries, so it will do. King Shark isn't bad and the other characters work well so far. This is definitely a book I will follow.

Deathstroke 1:
From the Simon Bisley cover to the last page, it's action, action action. It's a good story with good art and the costume change isn't that bad (I still like the Perez-designed classic costume, but there have been changes to this character before). This one makes Deathstroke a little like Marvel's Punisher, but it's really a solid start.

Red Lanterns 1:
Great story and art and a really good hook that makes me want to put this on my monthly pull list. I really like the Red Lanterns and this is a good introduction to the characters and what motivates them. The art is some of Ed Benes' best work. His art has really progressed over the years and this works really well with the ferociousness of the Red Lanterns.

I'm not even halfway through Batman & Robin #1 and I've got to say, it's one of the worst Batman issues I've ever read.

oh? Do tell. I thought it wasn't bad. Not great, but not shit either.

Also:

Red Lanterns = Not what I was expecting, but a good book. And Benes is back to his best
Green Lantern = Solid book again

I liked GL and RL. Curious as to see how long they keep Sinestro in the title role.

Yeah, I like Hal, but Sinestro is so much better.

And I'm disappointed in the Batman and Robin, since the villain seems really cool.

GL was great. I'm more curious what they're going to do with Sinestro after he's out of the title role.

Spoiler:
GL #1 really set him up to go against his corps and be something of a hero

RL was good/ok. It was mostly just explanations and set up, which I can't really fault them for.

Did you read Franky yet? Is it good? What about Demon Knights?

Agreed. I was having a hard time figuring out who was the parent and who was the child. That issue was crap. Dick and Damien have a much better team dynamic.

Here is the general consense of the books this week.

Green Lantern- Great
Deathstroke-Great
Grifter-Good
Red Lanterns-Great
Demon Knights-Good
Batman And Robin-Bad
Resurrection Man- Very Good
Frankenstein-Very Good
Batwoman-Awesome art, average dialogue.
Mister Terrific-Surprisingly good
Suicide Squad-Surprisingly good
Superboy-Great

I thought that was the point. They aren't partners. Bruce is his father, and he has to show Damian who's boss. I honestly got the impression they were exagerrating Damian just to show in future issues how much Bruce is going to mould him as Robin.

Or did Morrison do that already?

The dialogue was terrible, forced and out of character. Bruce's actions were forced, terrible and out of character.

It seemed like Tomasi was talking to me, instead of actually writing the characters, or trying to write some epic dialogue that felt so melodramatic, that I wanted to punch a puppy in the face, full force.

"Did you know why I set the clock at this time? 10:48 on a september night was the time that all sense left my life."

"[...] first and last time on the anniversary of their deaths. Before the street is buldozed and brought back to life for working people with dreams. "

"Because I'm tired of marking the night I watched my father bleed out from his sucking chest wound and my mother from a hole in her throat."

"We'll go topside when I say we go topside, not a second before.

I can still see my mother's pearls rolling into the sewer. The sound of her pearls hitting the water seemed as loud as the gunshot that night."

That is dialogue just from 3 pages. 3 pages.

etc.

All I could think while reading that was this:

Damien should have told him "Are you going to cry now? Is that what's going to happen?" but he was too busy being superficially characterized.

Ok, well yeah.

Resurrection Man was a waste. The premise of the first issue was nearly identical to that of his last series.
