Just completed my solo run on Legendary. So, first impression regarding the campaign: Game is hard as **** on legendary! lol I hate using the Forerunner weapons.
Anyway, the game started off okay, felt similar to Halo: CE (obviously that was their intention), which isn't a bad thing.
I was mind numbingly bored throughout most of the middle portion of the game, from halfway through the second level to when you
Spoiler:
leave Requiem to pursue the Didact
, I felt that the game suffered from a lack of a proper macguffin. A lot of the time I felt like I was just moving from waypoint to waypoint just because, not as if I was progressing towar some goal. As well, Del Rio's ******* personality was so unwarranted that it was cheesy, and I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see John react a little more to seeing human beings for the first time in years (and the Spartan-4's as well).
However, the story improved once the Chief leaves Requiem. It's always interesting to me how, in Halo, being around humans makes the game so much more enjoyable. After wandering through the somewhat repetitive Forerunner environments (which has been an issue since the first game) by yourself, with only Cortana to keep you company, it's nice to have that human environment, and anesthetic, which always seems to be much more interesting than the Forerunner/Covvie anesthetic.
The dialogue was good, as always; Halo has always had some of the best voice-over work in the industry. The improved graphics really helps though. Being able to physically see the pain or anger on the faces of the character really helped relay the emotions that the game wanted you to empathize with. The ending scenes were indeed pretty sad, and a fitting end for one of the most beloved characters in gaming.
Overall, I would say that the campaign was superior to 3, ODST's and Reach, tied with Halo 1, and a bit inferior to Halo 2's. I'm hoping that they work on a better macguffin for the next game, and don't rely so much on technical jargan as the reason to move you from point A to B. I'm also crossing my figners for a better villain. The Didect was pretty meh.
edit- Also, Jennfer Hale needs to retire. She is FemShep. FemShep is Jennifer Hale. I don't want to see her in anymore games that is not Mass Effect, because all I hear is FemShep.
