If comicbooks actually used logic, The Living Tribunal would keep all the gems; no one would be able to take them from him (without PIS being a factor) by force or any other method except TOAA...
Comics use the same logic as the bible.
God created man in his image.
Gave him free will.
Man took the apple. And doomed humanity.
God is all knowing. All powerful.
Thus He could have stopped it at any time.
But he wanted to #### with mankind.
So he didn't.
Same reason TOAA doesn't take the ig away.
He likes seeming humanity run around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Gives them to Superman and he becomes an even greater protector.
Nah he'd split them up. He already talked Kyle out of playing God as classic Ion. Plus he's got a history of being afraid of his own powers if he were to ever abuse them, that's why he gave Batman kryptonite a while back.

That is true.
Do you by any chance remembered a Superman comic where he was ask to become part of a Universal group of protectors, but he denied it.

* i'm surprised you managed to involve religiion in this thread... 😐
In fiction adhering to making a good story is more important than the facts.
In dungeons and dragons the gamemaster is god. If he forgets a rule... No matter how hard players can point it out in the rules, he supersedes everything in order to maintain the story.
Same idea for most fiction.
Power gem- Superman, he has already tested ultimate power when he used Cosmic armor without being corrupted.
Reality Gem- again Superman, He has used miracle machine and knows how dangerous it is.
Mind gem- J'onn, one of the most ethical and strongest telepeths out there.
Time Gem- Booster gold, so that he can use it to guard time-stream more efficiently. I don't trust Rip hunter.
Soul gem- Dr Fate( Kent nelson).
Space gem- Nightcrawler, he could teleport anywhere he wants.

* in some weird perspective, yeah, i kinda agree... the "being god"-concept is notoriously used in comics oftentimes than anyone can imagine...
* by the way, you have some character/s in mind to bear the gems?
