Here's a short little making-of video: IGN

Wait...what? 😕

I just checked John Carter on its IMDB page, and the running time is credited as 134 minutes - that's 2 hours 14 minutes.

Ah, glad to hear that was an error, then. Rotten Tomatoes now says 2 hours and 14 minutes (Fandango confirms also, sweet). I swear it said 1 hour 34 minutes before. Ya gotta believe me!! 😛 2 hrs 14 min is much more like it. That's an epic (and reasonable) run time. Also, it's up to 80% so far on RT. Check out this praise!! Damn... 😱 😱

"John Carter is a fantastic fusion of old-fashioned adventure excitement and modern blockbuster spectacle. In short, it's wonderful."

Stephen Lambrechts
IGN Movies AU

Richly imagined, robustly performed, and directed with the evident enthusiasm of someone who's been dreaming about Barsoom his whole life, 'John Carter' is a gem.

Often spectacular, with stunning action and thrilling moments, it's a film that captures the pulpy, swashbuckling sensibilities of Burroughs while updating much of the whiz bang for an audience a century older than the original novels.

Lynn Collins's feisty Dejah Thoris is the best kick-ass sci-fi princess since Leia.

I've said from the beginning that it has a certain charm. I can tell it's well done. Fuxking stoked.

I'm glad the RT tomatometer has started so high with the early reviews. But the challenge for me will be ignoring it for the next week, until the film opens. I don't want to know any more than I do now.

There's not usually much in the way of spoilers on the Tomatometer, so it should be safe to check. I like to read what people are saying about it. I don't know too many specific spoilers (aside from having read the book) and having seen most of the footage that's been released in trailers, clips, etc... heh. They don't usually show everything in the trailers... lol

Good to see Andrew try something. The guy deserves the utmost respect for his achievements with pixar.

I honestly don't expect it to stay quite so high. I do expect it to be above 60%, though... "Fresh."

Because 'The Lorax' started out at 86% a few days ago, but fell to 58-59% by opening day. I don't want what's considered the critical tenor of the film to influence my thinking any more before I see it. Right now I know a whole lot of critics have praised it, with one reviewer being negative. Going to freeze my mind until it opens next Friday.

(Cone Of Silence descends...)

Well, if you could pop in and copy and paste some thoughts here as well... that would be nice. 😉 I, too, am trying to make plans to go see it either Friday or Saturday night with my girlfriend. So excited. More praise from RT...

"Just about every sci-fi/fantasy/superhero adventure you ever loved is in here somewhere."

Dan Jolin
Empire Magazine

And to be fair, the other side of the spectrum...

"The story veers between interesting, boring and borderline incomprehensible."

Martin Roberts
Fan The Fire

But you know what, I actually find the books somewhat incomprehensible at times, also. I sometimes lose focus and kind of zone out, though (especially when I'm reading it to go to sleep at night, heh). Even when it is incomprehensible, there's enough draw which makes it engrossing. This guys probably just not a Sci-fi fan.

Yes, indeed. He's Gill, the zebra fish who's tried to escape before, but landed on dental instruments and has a big scar across his side. He's the one who thinks up the plans for all Nemo to get out of the tank, and then he schemes up the way to get the rest of the fish to the ocean. At which point they're in the sea, bobbing in little plastic baggies of water.

I watched Finding Nemo. It was awesome, extremely charming. And somehow Willem Dafoe makes everything more awesome..

will do my best too

I'll be seeing it thursday and i hope i do enjoy it like the other people did.

Never read the books, so to me it looks at least fun. I'll probably give it a shot.

This is supposed to be a 10-minute scene from the movie. I'm not gonna watch, though...

With the film being about 90mins, it's probably not going to be very good.

Little time to develop the story; let alone the characters. Probably be just one action-scene loosely connected to another with some love interest and a sacrifice scene thrown in.

Too bad.

No, it's over 2 hours long. That was a mistake. Check RT for the Run time.
