Rucka's Punisher

What did you guys think of the first issue of the new Punisher run? I thought it was fantastic! The art, the writing, the panel layout, the perspective of the narrative, this is a really, really creepy, and even scary, issue. The rare parts where Frank shows up are almost a horror story, he is written as this almost ethereal specter of death, he only comes out of the shadows to doll out murder. Frank has no dialogue, and no narration in this issue, and it works. He comes off like a unstoppable monster from a classic horror movie.

I definitely wouldn't call myself a 'hardcore' Punisher fan. That is to say, I've only consistently followed his respective MAX runs (which, imo, are very well done.) So basing my opinion primarily on that, Rucka hit it out of the park.

Your analogy of Frank being portrayed as an "ethereal specter of death" is spot on. This issue was creepy (in a good way) and Frank's non-existent dialogue fit that 'style' very well... He let his guns/malice do the talking- and that's exactly what I wanted to see. It was the perfect Punisher issue, imho.

Hmmm. That certainly sounds really cool for a take on Punisher. I was wondering how Rucka, who handled Batman and co. for a good while when he worked in DC, would approach Punisher.

Yeah, I really liked the first issue a lot. seeing him through the eyes of other characters is an interesting take on it and I can't wait to see how it goes because the best way to look at Frank is to look at him through the eyes of someone who's either against him, not like him or completely scared shitless of him. All issues in Punisher's comics that show him from someone else's point of view are awesome. this was no exception.

Can't wait to see how the next issues are.

P.S. speaking of which, when is PunisherMAX 16 coming out? 😕

I didn't hate war journal 2 but i found it incongruous at times (going from shooting buzzsaw guns at aliens to fighting Captain America themed neo nazis). oh and the art sucked so much balls it could easily spit them on a BLT and call it Meatball Marrinara. I also hated how Matt Fraction teased the "doesn't kill Jigsaw cuz he reminds him of himself" angle and how he can't even remember his wife's face....but then the whole thing was dropped in favor of him fighting skrulls in the middle of new york -_-

even In The Blood was a massive letdown. Remender had a commendable run on Punisher at the start but he needs to be EGWF by Kazuya Mishima for FrankenCastle. DORYA!!

I enjoyed the first issue, have always enjoyed the things I've read of The Punisher. I'm excited that there's a new and accessible jumping on point like this just as I'm getting into comics.

honestly, i think this is the most badass artwork seen on any Punisher arc to date. even Frank's skull looks like he just jizzed on himself after looking at himself in the mirror

I think the idea is it's supposed to look ghostly and ethearel. You're just perverse. Got no problems with supervillains just having him hunt mobsters is boring and pigeon holes him.

i liked the Frankencastle story.

This week's Punisher was freaking awesome.

Im refering to what happened in this months issue. I was waiting for things to heat up and boy did they heat up.

From what Rucka said Thor is one of those Avengers who wouldn't really have a serious problem with Punisher. Rucka stated that The Avengers are going to have different opinions on how to deal with him eg Wolverine, Thor and Black Widow may not have a problem with him at all.
