The Istari were only around from halfway through the Third Age.
well, i wasn't as specific but i did say after the first age...
the valar sent them to help those in middle earth, but the only ones that really did anything were gandalf and saruman even if saruman turned bad...what use were the others?
radagast friend to animals and the other 2 unknowns? nothing

so less in fact they weren't given names...other than fanfics guesses
The other two Istari?
😑
I think there is at least a short description and characterisation given in the Unfinished Tales, but they seem mostly defined by the characters of the Valar who sent them
As you are mentioning fanfics,
Alatar and Pallando would be great ideas for one - they leave a lot of room for own ideas and interpretations

i can't recall that description. aside from the two primaries what purpose did the other three serve...Radagast was a friend to animals and such, but their purposes were in my estimate a confusional state...no mention but theoritical guesses...
Did Tolkien name those two: Alatar, Pallando or was it his son? The name, just doesn't sound Tolkienish..

No, that was Tolkien himself 🙂
Most names with "o", especially with "ndo" at the end, dont sound very tolkienish... theyre too proud, too noble ^^
thanks...just that the names sort of go off on a tangent compared to gandalfs and saruman, but i prefer their maia names in valinor...
Exactly, Alatar was one of the Blue Wizards
But I'm having my doubts about this map - I wonder where the author took the information from?
~ the map isn't really correct... certainly not the eastern part. The south (south of the socalled "kingdom of Umbar"😉 also doesn't agree with the other maps Tolkien drew...
Most strange are the names in the East - absolutely un-tolkienish. Ja, Garakhi, Chhepegnib - Tolkien would never call regions names like that. Chh?!?
Sry, but this map looks very ff-ish to me.
