What Dog Should I Get? (Siberian Husky or Japanese Akita)

Ive been thinking of getting a dog for well over the past couple of months now but im only gonna get a Husky or an Akita but im very confused over which dog to get out of the two?

So can you folk who have had either dog as a pet tell me your opinions?
(btw this is the first time that im getting a dog to keep).

or

So what do you think?

I don't think either are ideal for the first time dog owner.

To me the Husky looks cooler, but maybe the Akita may be a bit easier to train, and also it will wait for you at Waterloo station.

Just get a wolf.

Huskey, although, you have to make sure its a good one alot of them have very bad tempers, they devolop them as puppies pretty fast....

Get a Seymour.

I would go with the Husky even through they look pretty much the same.Or go by how much each cost.

why does the picture say american akita?

Akita's need an experienced hand to curb aggressive genetic tendencies. Huskies are notable runners who will become terribly destructive if you don't supply ample attention, exercise and mental stimulation. Also, Huskies are LOUD. Expect lots of howling/whining/vocalizations.

If you like that 'Spitzy' look, make your life a little easier. American Eskimo Dogs and Shiba Inus are both significantly easier on a first time dog owner, provided you supply proper socialization. Finnish Spitz's are really quite lovely, too.

Neither.

Some videos on both dogs

Well after watching both videos, im starting to lean towards getting the Akita because the Husky would probally drive me crazy with all that howling and constant exercise it needs daily.

GET A WOLF

Jack Russell Terrier

NO BARKER, NO!

**** em both, get a Beagle. Greatest dogs ever.

We don't need any more imbeciles with wolves or wolf dogs in this world.

In my opinion, nothing compares to a good herding breed or cross. They're personable, active and intelligent. 'Velcro' type loyalty and broad spectrum trainability, with a good amount of common sense. Hardy and brave but still just big loves. For someone active, hair-tolerant and in need of a canine partner that actively reacts and responds to them, there is no other choice.

Aussies, for me.

*thought you were describing beagles because I misread herding as 'hunting'
*figured out you weren't
*was a bit upset
*but i'm ok now

Also, first time dog owner, those breeds in the OP are going to have off the wall energy most likely. You may end up being surprised at the work involved.

Heh, sorry to disappoint.

And in response to last post, agreed. Also, HAIR. Both of them are year round shedders. I've had to train and rehome several huskies here. People disgust me with their incompetence and unfairness. I mean, by all means, have a dog! It's a great and rewarding bond to form, but so many people 'like the looks' of a dog that doesn't suit their lifestyle at all and the dog suffers.
