If dvd sells are also good then there well probably be a sequel, especially since there's not a bunch of big league actors in the film that will be getting paid RDJ money.

I really hope there's a sequel. This franchise deserves it imo. While a lot of people watched this because of the efx, i watched this because Jax friggin Teller and Clay Morrrow are in it. Charlie Hunnam is so underrated as an actor.

If this does get a sequel, i'm hoping they do a much better job of the human character's and what they get up to in it.

Honestly I kinda liked the human characters- Raleigh's much more emotionally aware than is standard for an action movie protagonist, and Mako had a nice story.

Worldwide numbers just got update, $397,275,000 with China still going strong. US topped $99 mil, but it'll likely stop there. Japan, despite it's low opening, seems to be holding well so they're likely going to continue contributing for awhile.

.

Not saying that they were crap or anything like that.......just maybe improve on things.

Ah, yea.

They definitely can improve, but it was satisfactory for a possibly stand-alone popcorn flick.

Chinese Military Officer calls PACIFIC RIM 'propoganda'

Yea, that was hilarious 🙂

Well, every country has their loudmouths. I'm sure the people who bought 109 mil worth of tickets are just rolling their eyes.

Pacific Rim crosses 100m domestic, 400m worldwide

Also, while it's only one of 10 movies to reach 400m worldwide this year, 8 of those are existing properties and the 9th is animated, making it the highest grossing original live action movie this year.

I wish I were rich, I'd spend another 100 million going to see this.

So that'd be like 3 tickets and a large popcorn.

I caught a cheap viewing of this and rather enjoyed it.. much more than I was expecting, actually. I liked having mostly new faces rather than people we've seen in dozens of other movies. And Idris Elba is such a f#cking badass. This shit was fun and actually pretty damn well done. Makes me kinda wish that del Toro would take a stab at some of the Lord of the Rings / Hobbit / Silmarillion material. He seems to have a much better sense of pacing.

Sure, it may have taken 8 weeks, but PACIFIC RIM finally breached $100M domestically, $400M worldwide.

Excellent news. Even though worldwide grosses have now become more important for these tentpole films - they need them to ensure profitability - breaking the $100 million barrier in North America is an important point, if only for appearance sake. With over $400 million worldwide and counting, it's now qualified for sequel territory. More Kaiju and Jaegers, please!

(The irony being - yes it's an original film, but by the time sequels are released it will be considered just another franchise by the critics, bemoaning originality in the summer season.)

So now Charlie Hunnam has gone from this to the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

Hey, it's a paycheck.

A sequel is seeming more and more probable. 🙂

Its time for Hollywood to change, Stop relying on domestic to determine if a movie gets a sequel.
