That's the thing that ever bothered me about this film, and even then I didn't learn about until after. When the scene occurred, I was thinking less about the combat tactics and more about the beautiful scenery of them being lifted into space and withstanding atmospheric re-entry, scenery we wouldn't have seen if she just deployed the wristblades immediately. So it's a plot hole I am more than willing to forgive.

As such, all my observations are perfectly in the spirit of the film, would have helped to further secure its "footing" in the real world and might have ultimately made it a better film.
Still, as I acknowledged right from the start, awesome entertainment and enjoyable despite the flaws.
