But in Naruto, Naruto is being preoccupied. So it's hardly like Naruto will swoop in to save the day.

Sadly that's how I see it ending at this moment.

The Kage aren't saying things like "Naruto is our only hope" like they're doing with Ichigo at the moment. ๐Ÿ˜›

But Ichigo won't be there for them, that's the difference. So that cry for help only emphasizes on how dire the situation really is, and that the captains can't afford to hold back.

I'd say, overall, pretty weak week.

1) Fairy Tail
2) Naruto
3) Bleach
4) One Piece

Still abit weird on the Fairy Tail thing but I agree once again.

Wonder what the recent drop in quality for One Piece is about? But this was mostly a set up week I guess

1. Bleach
2. Naruto
3. One Piece

Q99 is right, fairly weak week overall.

Probably because this arc is rather sporadic compared to the other arcs.

The only reason Luffy and Co came to the island was cause he heard a distress signal. Caesar, Law, the kids, this Virgo guy? It's all happening out of nowhere.

...Which now that I think about it, Fishmen Island was like that too. The Straw Hats just showed up when shit was happening and got dragged into it.

Isn't Luffy supposed to be fighting Big Mom right now?

One thing I notice- the three shounen jump titles tend to clump their off-weeks together.

Fairy Tail, off in a different magazine, will instead be having a throw down.

On OP, maybe Oda just doesn't have a good handle on the new power levels and how to best use them dramatically yet.

That seemed like the only thing you could infer from the last arc.

And then this happened.

Come to think of it, I can't think of many arcs where what the Straw Hats were doing changed so much....except Skypeia lol.

But the new OP arc is escentially another Skypeia only the villain isn't awesome and the Straw Hats didn't intentionally try to get here. Though saying that they're lost seems to be taking it a tad far.

On the other had Fishmen Island could've been completely avoided if Jimbei took five minutes out of his life to beat the shit out of Hody and co.

Yeah Fairy Tail is awesome and stuff: especially since it didn't take 50 chapters to get to the good stuff like Negima ๐Ÿ˜

Oh, the Baroque Works arc had a ton of distractions. You get an enemy on one island. Then you get Little Garden and Drum Drum. Then you finally get around to Crocodile himself.

Personally I felt when the Straw Hats first entered the first half of the Grand Line was also fairly weak.

Ah but you see, once Vivi was introduced(for who she really was) the objective was always clear: Save Alabasta. It was always the driving force of the arc. Something else might get in the way but that was the main focus.

Like how the purpose of the Water 7/Eneis Lobby arcs was to fix Marry or get a new ship. The entire save Robin business was in a way one huge detour from that objective.

OP has always been more or less this weird and unfocused, I'm surprised at most people's reactions here, as IF OP was actually focused from arc to arc.

I liked Naruto's filler chapter for a change, many things happening at once.

Eh, Little Garden and DrumDrum had little to do with that objective, and with Water 7/Eneis Lobby- you had an objective going in, then you got a bigger, long-term objective suddenly go to the forefront, so you've got multiple big stuff at once. It's kinda the opposition situation- it's one of the stories with the most important stuff happening.

Little Garden was necessary because of how the system of navigation in the Grand Line worked. Granted, you can say it could have been avoided if Luffy hadn't broken the eternal log and I'd say Luffy is Luffy.

Drum Drum was necessary because they needed a doctor for Nami. No navigator, no reaching Alabasta.

They seemingly have nothing to do with the objective but in fact they do. ๐Ÿ˜›

Little Garden I don't mind so much- it was fun and they fought Mr. 3, part of the main plot, there.

DrumDrum, the problem with Nami only showed up as they arrived. So... yea. Plus, even if you view it as needed, it was stretched out, having any of the good guys (Strawhats or Chopper) meet Wapol for a fairly long time. The same events could've been told in a more compressed way.

And/or they could've had more frontier agents show up during it to tie it in more.

I do agree that putting more Baroque guys in would have tied it more to the saga. As it stands, it seems more like a black sheep. But it also doubles as a recruitment arc for Chopper. ๐Ÿ˜›

Alabasta is my favorite arc and saga so yeah I'm biased. uhuh

Alabasta is some of my favorite bits spaced out more than I like.

I'd say Water 7/Enies, or the earlier Arlong arc are my favs.

You people are insane. This week was awesome for Bleach and Naruto. The Bleach chapter was written well and the story is finally reaching a high-stakes level.

Naruto also has plot progression and we finally get to see the best villain of the series, Orochimaru, again. What the hell were you guys expecting?

It was perfect, hush up.

I find the fights forgettable in the former and too much PIS in the second. Sanji acted uncharacteristically stupid.

Water 7/Eneis Lobby is the best from a sheer character perspective though. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.

I know. I guess it's the lack of action or something but I thought Naruto and Bleach were awesome. Bleach in particular surprised me with how smart everything was.

Oh, they're finely done setup, but it's about awesome stuff that is going to happen, rather than stuff happening now.

A manga needs setup beats to make the high beats sharper, but a setup beat still gives us less to rave about right now.
