Define 'words'.

Remember- giant Star Wars galaxy.

Also remember- smugglers in giant Star Wars galaxy. Smugglers willing to take jobs from the Sith.

Scum? Villainy? 😛

I said 'define' words, not give me some...

Words aren't natural, objective, universal constructs.

Someone already mentioned the relevant skill- it just needs to be applied in this way.

Probably way off topic, but I'm wondering if the Golden Serpent or the Hutts are relevant here, with smugglers willing to work with the Sith.

Otherwise I'm sure the skill we'd be looking at here is Savoir-Faire, I'm just unsure how we'd apply it.

You said basic. Right? Okay, what languages appear in the text dump? Specifically.

Languages: 2
Fix-it: 3

Not way off topic at all. The Golden Serpent didn't really exist at the time (its founder made his name in those wars). The Hutts, on the other hand...

And related to that- there are many different languages, Denz.

Of course! The messages would probably be sent in Huttese, yes? It's practically the crime language of the galaxy.

Indeed so!

There we go!

So we're going to need languages and observation to find messages in huttese and then observation to find coordinates within those messages.

Yup- that's two factors. I'll give a little nit for anyone to think of anything else!

If Jelena doesn't have us covered on Language, nobody does.

Can Gallagher contribute any Jedi Lore knowledge to narrow down the time frame in which Kazan would've reached out to the Hutts?

And will we need Fix-It for the corrupted data?

Are there sections of the data that's encoded or encrypted or was the entire thing encrypted equally?

I'm thinking that Kazan would want to keep any data about the scrolls as secret as possible.

The whole thing was encrypted equally, I think, to keep things simple here. Fix-It will cover all of that.

Jedi Lore really is no good on this one I am afraid- likely the one skill-based part of the story where it is not.

I doubt he went to the Hutt's, just that the messages were sent in Huttese. Well some of them, and hopefully the ones we want. Huttese was and still is a pretty common, if inelegant language in the galaxy. Can Denz take a crack at all this?

The corrupted data, and checking for messages sent in Huttese, perhaps the latest entries if that can be discerned.

I think Ush just established that it probably WAS the Hutts that Darth Kazan used. They would be a neutral party in any war the Jedi and Sith fought, after all. They still are in the Prequel and Original Trilogies. Denz would probably be best at taking a crack at the encryption with his high Fix-It skills!

Gallagher does not have much to contribute in the way of skills, if Jedi Lore does not qualify. Maybe he can help Jelena with tracking down Huttese messages and translating them. He's not bad with Language.

Could Savoir-Faire be helpful here in some way? Knowledge of the Galaxy?

I can't think of anything to add. Rast could help with the technical stuff if it's needed. Or are we not thinking of more skills to add but of things to look for?

I think Jelena is better with Language than she is with a lightsaber.

I can't think of anything else. We've got tons of Language and Fix-It experts in our group, those should be knocked out effortlessly now that we know what we're looking for.

Maybe start tracking down words and phrases in Huttese, once we narrow it down.
