Only times orion got the better of Ds was the time he let him win intentionally and countdown. Countdown to this day I feel was amped to some degree just as we never seen orion swat away the JLA like nothing before with an ability we never seen.

Which one is that? Are you talking about Orion source of the beast or the fight in his own book?

Originally I thought he was amped in the Countdown one, but I'm now a firm believer it was Orion just going Orion on his pops.
No mention of Source amp whatsoever. Plus DotNG was a separate aspect of their godliness story or whatever the DC and it's writers tried to explain it as..

Darkseid and Orion clash in the Source, which causes the entire universe to go to hell. Their very presence taints the Source, and that’s what Darkseid wants. He even allows Orion to kill him just so he could corrupt the Source.

Darkseid explains he did this on purpose, and that Orion had no chance really against him. He wasn’t sure if he would come back, but he was willing to risk it

He actually admits later he could have easily killed Orion, but pretended to even die to further stain his soul so that Darksied and him could rule the universe. Orion actually now has the anti-life equation.
