Yeah I know I know it's a character from a comic...anything is possible.
But when you apply it to a live action adaption, things get stretched a little beyond disbelief.

I mean in The Avengers he had the brief case that contained his armour, power supply, propulsion system, computer hardware for the suit...and not to mention x amount of mini-missiles.
All good in a cartoon but a little beyond "suspension of disbelief" for a movie.

bermm

Yes...there was probably room enough in the brief case for a smilie too.

Gotta agree with you here. One of the best thing about the original Iron Man was it was somewhat grounded in reality.

In the Avengers it wasn't that bad, IMO. But the brief case scene in Iron Man 2 was far too over-the-top for my liking.

Serum that turns a sickly, scrawny kid into a Superhuman... totally feasible.

Giant green rage monster... no problem.

People from another world who travel across a rainbow bridge... sure, sounds legit.

armor with missiles inside of a brief case.... WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! This is totally unbelievable.

😐

But those are all in different movies...

Yes, yes. I get that they are all in the same universe. But the Iron Man films' settings seems firmly rooted in reality. So the highly fantastic elements contrast greatly with the setting the movie presents which is, IMO, grating.

Spidey, Hulk, Thor...they're fantasy based characters, thus the term "Super" heroes. It's easy to believe them because they're not bound by physics or science.

But no matter how smart or hightech you apply to Tony Stark, it is more difficult to believe all that arsenal, mechanics, power propulsion & computer hardware can feasibly fit in a suit that's not much bigger than Stark himself.

I mean seriously, just ONE shoulder housing for his mini missiles would already take up all the room in a brief case.

OHHH! I missed the part where you said Iron Man 2. The "brief case" armor is the one he used to fight Whiplash... uhhh, yeah, that armor didn't have any of that stuff, no missiles, etc. just repulsors.

I thought you were talking about the one from Avengers that he used when Loki threw him outta the window.

also, the sickly scrawny guy i was referring to was Cap, not Spidey.

My mistake too. The brief case was in Iron Man 2 but I was actually referring to that capsule (I mistook for a b/case) that flew out the window to become Tony's armour....it still seemed too small to be feasible.

And for some reason, I read "sickly" & thought "sticky" as in web, scrawny as nerd (Peter Parker)...but then again Spidey wasn't in The Avengers movie... 😮

When the Ironman II trailer came out and seeing Tony unleash an armor from a case I had alot of friends say "that's pretty unrealistic".

I just explained to them that Stark as a character evolves heavily throughout the years, yet they had their hearts set on Tony being a man who enters a bulky suit a kicks ass.

The suitcase suit was a homage to the fact that Stark could replicate his tech into micro miniature versions and so could create suits that expanded and allowed him to carry the suit with him whilst Ironman was a secret identity.

I believe the film did a good job in making the suit realistic though considering it wouldn't fly and had no missile ammunition on it. All it could do was shoot repulsor blasts. Which Tony proved could achieve in a singular glove.

Tony Stark in the Marvel Comics has always been a character who accesses advanced Star Trek style tech way ahead of human innovation and uses it to protect the world and those he loves. He constantly evolves to struggle to keep up with the freaks, gods and monsters he has to battle constantly.

It's interesting how Tony Stark is almost an anagram of Star Trek. Stark does predate the show by 3 years. I'm blabbering.

My point is the current film is based on a comic that inspired the studio to get started on these films.
And the Extremis comic is based on a heavily advanced Ironman who feels he can't catch up to the technology that's overtaking him. And considering the current version of film Ironman is nothing more than a durable armored suit with Repulsor Tech and enhanced power source.

Tony has ALOT of catching up to do. I was both scared and excited when I found out the third film was going to be based on Extremis because-

1- Scared because the Ironman armor hasn't displayed any of the tech necessary for the Extremis armor to work until we saw him launching pieces of it onto himself recently.

2- Excited because this story is a game changer. If done right this film will be a modern classic. I always give the trade of Extremis to people I know who have never read comicbooks and they are always hesitant, but once they start they can't stop and by the end the response is always good.

You've convinced me to read Extremis.
Is the story arc in a graphic novel format or do I have to chase up individual issues?
How old is it?

Few more months!

It's not very old, you can get it in a trade. It was only 6 issues.

Extremis is a very good, well told story arc.. One of Marvel's best where Iron Man is concerned. you might like it

i watched the extremis arc on netflix.. if anybody else has seen that and read the comic book arc, how similar are the 2?

Most likely the same since one of them is a motion comic

Lolz

I hope that Robert Downey Jnr brings a new element to his character in this movie. I found the first hilarious - but, we've now seen the same thing in the sequel + avengers. More of the same will be boring.

Noticed this movie comes out next week for Australia.

Watched most of the movie this morning.....

It's a good movie, but oh boy are the twists gonna give comic nerds some major shocks.

Just back from seeing it

at least a 9/10 from me

and yeah lots of twists, wasn't expecting them to do that with the Mandarin.
