Well, that's a lie because a few years back, Odin fought Surtur amped by Twilight and the Casket of Ancient Winters and Surtur did far far better than Thanos did.
That statement means nothing, really.

So your calling Odin a liar
Yes.
His battle with Thanos, where Thanos didn't endanger Odin at all, pales to the battle Odin had with Surtur, where Surtur actually was winning and Odin needed the help of Thor and Loki.
At best, it was a flowery statement designed to give Thanos respect and props, which I have no issue with. But to take it at face value is misleading and completely inaccurate.

Holding back yet Odin said he had not been in a fight like the one with Thanos in millennia also with the power gem I believe he would do better. Also why would Odin hold back with someone when he goes into his kingdom and starts a fight.
A quick look at Odin's past battles will prove that Thanos doesn't even rank in terms of Odin's toughest fights.

Prove he held back.
The proof is, that Odin actually stopped himself and offered Thanos the chance to quit. He had not decided to obliterate Thanos yet. He didn't push for the kill.
The way Tyrant was when he fought Thanos. 😄
Obviously, Odin held back and was not bloodlusted, but was about to go to the next level.
That is, unless you want to go the route that would say the writer was writing Odin to be full of crap and we should think he was actually weaker than the on-panel info would dictate.
Or, that the writer didn't know anything about the characters and was penciling a story without correct background.
But, if these things are true, that is up to you or somebody else to prove. Because, you understand, we can't just go by the opinions of forum members.
There would be total anarchy!

Tyrant did try and kill Thanos because he said to Thanos is you still live which mean he did try but didn't kill him. I am sure Odin went easy on Thanos because it was destroying asgard that not something Odin would try to put an end too as soon as possible
