What is the difference between hard rock and heavy metal?

Hard Rock examples include: Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Disturbed, etc.

Metalcore (rooted from Heavy Metal) examples include: Killswitch Engage, August Burns Red, All That Remains, etc.

Listen to them; you'll see the difference. I greatly recommend you check out everyone I listed above. I can provide more, if necessary.

Pls to not be confusing core with metal. estahuh

Why would you provide him with metalcore when he asked for metal?

I know. Hence, the clarification. It was just my most familiar example. However, it is still, for all intents and purposes, classified as metal.

As I just said. It's a subgenre of metal, but metal nonetheless. And, again, it's the example I'm more qualified to use.

It's for all intents and purposes shitty.

Why not suggest something less shitty?

My main issue is that metal core is not actually a subgenre of metal, it's a related off shoot of hardcore punk. It is not metal. estahuh

My opinion on metalcore should be apparent based on this sentiment. It's actually something of a berserk button for me.

No matter what some hipster might tell you, there's no real difference.

To be fair though Glory, you're not very intelligent so you're not qualified to speak on it.

Alright, name the differences.

We were called, and I answered. It's more than you bothered to do. estahuh

You're honestly going to accuse Killswitch of being "shitty"?! You have no soul!

I think you're refering to Post-Hardcore (or whatever the f**k they call it). No one I named fits this "hardcore punk" trope, which was the whole reason I selected them. Fear not, I know what I'm doing. estahuh

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalcore

First words.

All 'core' grew out of hardcore punk. It's not metal, just took a few elements from it.

In that case...

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcore_punk

...check 'Stylistic Origins' (and maybe also 'Derivative Forms'😉.

Edit: I suppose this would explain some things. 'Metal' (descending from metal) 'core' (borrows hardcore elements). mmm

I took your advice and went to Wikipedia. Turns out, it more or less agrees with me. I could understand where you're coming from if we were talking differences between hard rock and black metal, death metal, thrash metal, etc. But hard rock and heavy metal? Essentially the same thing.

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Facts like heavy metal songs and artists making "100 Greatest songs/artists of Hard Rock" lists. Or maybe the Rolling Stones magazine using the two terms interchangeably? Or maybe it's because they sound essentially the same? Pure heavy metal is 98% the same as hard rock, it's in heavy metal's sub-genres where the differences become more evident.

A better method of research would simply be listening to them. Though, I don't buy that they're virtually the same, I do agree that subgenres are more distinguishable.

So no.

I accept your concession.
