You're ignoring context. Why is Link using a sword important?

It hurt him but did not kill him.

The boots stop the Gorons. Links strength cannot. The game makes it clear he needs the heavy boots to stop them. He can lift them just not stop them on his own.

We see Bulbins men drum him out.

Link used a sword the entire game. He needs it due to his inferior strength.
