Iron Man 3 vs Man of Steel

MOS's stock has went up since that trailer came out. IM 3 still is going do be huge though and being connected to Avengers should help. But on the flip being MOS is going to jumpstart DC's shared universe it's hard to say how much MOS will make. Anybody think it will hit 1 billion?

I doubt it.

I could see it hitting that after DVD and Bluray sales.

I still think IM3 will gross more.

Are there anymore confirmed villains other than Zod?

YouTube video

Not a huge Superman fan, but seeing him smack Zod across the city made me applaud in my living room.

Faora, and an army of Kryptonians.

It should hit a billion after seeing this trailer. If the story is as good as the trailer, they will hit it. We know the action won't be a let down so it falls to the story to draw in more audiences. Anything 80% and above fresh on the rotten meter and I think that will give it good enough word of mouth to hit a billion. At this point, even Superman will benefit from the Avengers hype. After seeing Iron Man 3, the audience would want to go see Superman. Thor hit $455 million world wide and this was before the Avenger's hype.

Here's a list of its predecessors which were all good and financially successful (likely in the case of IM 3):

Thor
X-Men First Class
Amazing Spider-man
Avengers
The Dark Knight Rises
Iron Man 3

I'm sure MOS will do well after seeing that trailer and the hype increase. But a Billion might be pushing it. It still has to fight the hurt SR did.

A good example is Batman Begins did well but no where near as well as TDK and TDKR. Imho that's because the last Batman movie before it was Batman & Robin.

Same with Incredible Hulk. I'm sure it would have done better if not for Hulk before it.

I'm thinking MOS might make something similar to The Amazing Spiderman. And I'd be happy if it did that well. IM3 probably won't be far behind.

Either way, this summer is gonna be ****ing epic.

Or Winter depending on where you live.

Damn right!

I hope your right. If that happens then a JL movie will happen very soon.

I just worry SR's stain won't make it easy for MOS.

As long as it's a success, I don't care how much it makes.

It just needs to make enough for DC and WB to want to make other DC movies.

I think it'll need to make 700mill worldwide to be considered a success. Considering it is Superman and the amount of effort, time and money WB has put into this.

Anything like 500mill wouldn't cut it Imho. Remember SR grossed around 400mill.

But looking at the trailer it shouldn't be a problem surpassing those figures.

Apparently the budget was 175 million. If it made 500, I can't see that being a bad thing., as that's more than double.

Even accounting for extras like marketing, anything over 500 really should be fine imo. Ideally, I'd like it to make at least 750.

I'm hoping to go on opening night, Imax all of the way.

Really? So they've not overspent? Looks like they're learning. Finally!

thats about right.. although i thought it would be closer to $250 million.. depending on their deals, Man of Steel should a major success, prolly not Iron Man 3 success, but nonetheless

Can anyone give me a reboot of a franchise that got over 800 million? Besides Amazing Spiderman, nothing comes close. Also, Spiderman is very popular due to the success of the trilogy. Even then, Spiderman did poorly in Domestic Numbers. It only pulled nicely on Overseas.

Superman on the other hand isn't as popular overseas. I don't expect Man of Steel to make more then 650 Worldwide. If the movie is good and word of mouth travels as good as IM, or even Avengers, than it could hit numbers close to 700-750. Counting 3D and Inflation, 650 is reasonable. Keep in mind, Batman with a 150 Million budget and 373WW was able to get a sequel. I'd much rather Man Of Steel be received well with audience and critics then try and get high box numbers. Let the Sequel attempt that much like TDK

Ironman 3, RDJ is riding the wave of success as a main character from Avengers. If there is a movie this year that has a chance at hitting 1 billion, it should be IM3(and hobbits)
