Current Gen Console Discussions (PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch (Pro?) OFFICIAL THREAD

The "always on" feature of the Xbox 720. I cannot for the life of me understand how they think that is a good idea.

So that was proven true? I thought it was still a rumor.

Still a rumor.

I heard all the rumors. I even read one saying an actual official document was leaked showing that games for the new xbox HAD to be installed on the system. The claim was you install the game like a computer game and there is an install key but once it is entered on one xbox it won't work with any other making it impossible to play used games on the system. Yet again still only a rumor because said leaked page was never put online.

The next Xbox as of yet does not exist. It has not been announced by Microsoft. Hence, everything you hear about it thus far is rumor.

Someone saying they don't see the big deal about always-on does not mean that it has been confirmed that that is true.

It's not officially confirmed, but it's highly likely. Just because Microsoft hasn't come straight out and said it exists, doesn't mean we should pretend it doesn't. Especially when the Microsoft creative director already outed the feature.

Man, that guy is a douche.

On the other hand, the feature makes no sense. Not every country has xbox live. If this feature does exist, then there would be no point selling xbox's in those countries. They would effectively be cutting out a ton of sales.

No, someone saying they don't see the big deal with things being always on is not outing it as a feature. It's someone running their mouth in a stupid way, but it's by no means any sort of confirmation.

Also, just by doing that, they'd be cutting their sales in the US alone by a significant margin. Broadband infrastructure in this country is absolutely terrible - there are still many areas where there is no internet access available, or only dialup.

Yeah, it hasn't been confirmed yet, no matter what these "sources" say.

Still, if it did happen, I really wouldn't be surprised.

Apparently, the console reveal is going to be in May, and the actual release will be in November. Also, more evidence pointing towards the 'always online' feature.

"It's worth noting that at no point in the podcast does Thurrott offer a source for his information so, until we hear anything official, don't be too hasty to think of these rumours as anything more than just that - rumours."

From that very article. So it could be true, or it could be someone pulling stuff out of their ass just to fan the flames - as people have been doing for seven years now.

Just my two cents: I do not even entertain the thought that the next Xbox will have to be always connected. The implications would be way too huge and would cut their worldwide sales big time. Wait for the reveal and we will see that there is no such "always connected" demand.

I listen to that Podcast. It's good.

Thurrott is great, for a Windows fanboy.

Actually, I just saw a new article on IGN talking about how the next Xbox won't be backwardscompatible with the X360 and it got me thinking. I'm starting to believe that all of these rumours are true, to the extent that they have been "leaked" by real Microsoft sources. This lowers the expectations of the consumers, makes Sony relax as it sees all the "errors" Microsoft are doing.

Then when they suddenly reveal the console, show that it does not have to be online, has backwards compatibility and so on they'll surprise the masses and sway the consumers...

Your whole post needs to be topped off with your avatar to show your "evil genius"...or MS's evil genius.

Like this (but with the image actually working):

Now, now, Hal Jordan is not an evil genius, I guess he's an alright Green Lantern, but still...

Ubisoft Montreal today spoke about how the PS4 was much easier to work with than previous Sony consoles. Sounds encouraging to me.

I actually kind of agree here. That would be a very interesting tactic for sure.

It would be nice if the rumors are right about the price though lol

Considering that they've switched from their terrible cell processor to a standard x84 architecture...not surprised.

That's not Hal Jordan, it's Bill Gates looking over the new phosphorescent next-gen Xbox and seeing in its glow the destruction of Sony and Nintendo.

He's wearing a mask because he's at a sexy party.

Me either. Still nice to hear it, though.
