Actually, I just saw a new article on IGN talking about how the next Xbox won't be backwardscompatible with the X360 and it got me thinking. I'm starting to believe that all of these rumours are true, to the extent that they have been "leaked" by real Microsoft sources. This lowers the expectations of the consumers, makes Sony relax as it sees all the "errors" Microsoft are doing.

Then when they suddenly reveal the console, show that it does not have to be online, has backwards compatibility and so on they'll surprise the masses and sway the consumers...

That might seem to be an ingenious move on the surface, but about a week of relief and good publicity wouldn't be worth the months of consumer b*tching and negative PR, imo.

I think its real. I also think they just don't give a ****.

Always-on online will be a part of Xbox essentially taking over your TV.

"Multiple sources familiar with the company's Xbox plans"

Shit, that's so much more than single sources familiar with the company's Xbox plans...

So, Adam Orth, the "deal with always online" guy, isn't working at Microsoft anymore.

Man, the internet went after him. They even made memes of his profile pic. I didn't think one guy running his mouth could get that big.

Sony employee of the month...love it

I am very much afraid Morridini is setting himself up for disappointment. Remember, the conspiracy option is nearly always wrong.

I think the main issue is that, even if there is something that could be called "always on" (which there probably is, Thurrott is usually pretty good on Microsoft), we have absolutely no idea what that entails. People just assume it is a Sim City style thing, which obviously didn't work very well, but maybe it's not even about games, maybe it's about the media features (like Netflix or Hulu, which are already basically "always on"😉. We don't know anything, but it seems very likely that we might find out more at the end of May.

Oh indeed, it could be all sorts of things. It could be absolutely true or it could be nonsense. But the chances of it being some carefully crafted strategy of creating and then reversing expectations- which is fiddly, unreliable and, ultimately, nonsensical- is extremely low.

Oh yeah, I don't think that would work. That's not really how people respond to marketing, imo.

We'll see, I'm rather hoping that Microsoft are trying something clever, rather than the manhandling of things we have seen so far being genuine.

The 720 doesn't exist. Microsoft has yet to announce or confirm a single thing about a new console.

I'm pretty sure that the 360's predecessor does exist. and has for a while. and I believe we'll get a reveal at or before e3. I keep seeing may 21st all over the place.

The 360's predecessor, as in the Xbox? Yes it exists.

Be gentle on him: I don't think English is his first language. He obviously meant "successor".

lol.

yea, that. successor.

With the next Xbox they better fix up the download system through Xbox live.

Why?

I never have a problem. It's much better than PSN.

PSN is better at least you can put them in the background

with Xbox live can't even play a game while downloading.

If you play SP games, it downloads in the background. If you play games online, it stops.

Let's just say I'm downloading a game on PSN right now and it's at 50%, it's taken over 10 hours.

I rather have faster speeds than the ability to dl while playing a game, which XBOX does.
