Disney acquires Lucasfilm; Episode VII proposed for 2015

James Newton Howard is missing that "umph" we need.

Zimmer is all "umph" and lacks finesse and melodic skills.

Powell is an interesting choice and I can't believe I didn't think of it. He needs something like this to REALLY sink his teeth into to really shine because his resume is somewhat lacking in the action adventure department. I'd love to see what he could do with William's themes. Speaking of themes, I'm guessing there will be more returning in the new trilogy aside from just the regular Star Wars theme, most like the Force theme (Binary Sunset) and quite possibly some of the Rebel Alliance motifs brought back. If Leia's back it will be really nice to hear her theme again with her onscreen (it will help with the shock of seeing the character all old and scraggly)

I know most people might not think that the romantically-driven modern day Avatar and Titanic type James Horner is the right choice for Star Wars, but honestly he is THE MOST diverse composer out there today and if there's one person who can get back into those old fashioned, melodic and thematically-driven film scoring techniques that were so prevalent back in the day it's him.

You say that now, but wait until we see her all CGI'd with double Ds.

edit- Nevermind, Barker covered this already.

B-Bob?

Ok so it's been 2 weeks since the announcement and I STILL can't shake this weird sense of shock. I'm obsessed to the point where it's almost sickening. I feel like some born again christian who just found out that Jesus is coming back. I have been reading news, looking at photos, reading books, playing all the best Star Wars video games (although my modded OG xbox is having trouble playing most KOTOR2 isos out there...grrrr) I literally can't get Star Wars out of my head for more than 5-10 minutes max. It's disgusting. As a man I already have trouble not thinking about sex every 5-10 minutes so this adds to the problem of my overall lack of attention and lack of interest in the rest of the world.

That actually makes you more of a woman. Men think about sex every 5-10 seconds!

I like to leave it for a few minutes, then think about sex dozens of times at once. And they say men can't multi-task! I know that's technically one task but anyone who says men can't multi-task has obviously never caught one masturbating.

More importantly I need to find a girl who is into Star Wars like me.

one step at a time. get laid.

And I don't think Howard Shore or James Horner have the right style for Star Wars.

I'm 50/50 on the Horner part. I admit guilt in being somewhat of a James Horner fanboy, but I think his music is brilliant, and if tasked with the job I think he could deliver. He did score the new Spider-Man film, and even though I prefer what Elfman/Raimi did, I thought Horner's theme for the new movie was spot on....but like you said, does he have the right style for Star Wars? Maybe not. Do I think he could make a good soundtrack for it regardless? I'd have to say yes.

What I don't want to see happen is having them do away with tradition. I don't want the opening music to change or the crawl to be replaced, but I wouldn't be upset if the main theme was "re-scored" to include something different in the instrumentals, if that makes sense.

As to who I would like to score the new ST, I would like to see Brian Tyler do it, but since I like him, I'm prepared to hear from everyone else that's the worst thing they've ever heard. I love John Williams to death, but I don't think it will be a deal-breaker if he doesn't end up composing it.

One of our rebel readers, Curt, wrote in with the following:

"I was at Carrie Fishers booksigning in Cherry Hill, NJ on November 15, and the interview she did started with the question 'Are you really going to be in a new star wars movie?' and Carrie answered quietly 'Yes....I thought it was already common knowledge.' She did not elaborate, as she probably doesn't want to crow too loudly at this point in the project development. But this is the first confirmation from one of the main OT Cast. LFL has not said the cast would return yet."

UPDATE: Sadly, it turns out that she was kidding when she made that comment. A representative of Ms. Fisher confirmed that her statement was "tongue-in-cheek." Ah, well. We can always hope that this sparked the right kind of thoughts with Lucasfilm, as we'd love to see her in a new Star Wars film!

i'm going to go out on a very thick limb and speculate that she was quickly hushed and forced to backpeddle on her candid reply by LFL and/or her representative for the premature announcement.

Yeah it's as close to confirmed as you can get without an actual statement from LFL. They'll all be back.

I'll be happy if they bring back Lando too.

He's the one character I hope they bring back. I think Billy Dee Willliams could easily pull off that role again.

The Jedi have returned, now they're rising, what's next? They start reclining?

If the Sequels follow video-game naming schemes, then we're overdue for a film with a "Revelations" subtitle.
