Disney acquires Lucasfilm; Episode VII proposed for 2015

THey're not going to do NJO, or the Thrawn Trilogy. That's all EU. Lucas didn't use any EU stuff for the PT storyline (a little reference with Aurra Singh as a minute exception). And JJ won't use any either. So we speculate on what tidbits we get or what we'd like to see. And it won't be EU.

So what about Ryan Gosling being asked for SW?

They (plural because I just don't see GL making the decision on every minute detail) used several things from the EU in the PT.

1. Coruscant's name.
2. Jedi Code.
3. Ebenn Q3 Baobab's character.
4. The planet Tund.
5. The "he is too dangerous to be left alive" quote was originally stated by Kreia. Too much of a coincidence, imo. Mace Windu said the same of Sidious.
6. Aayla Secura's character.
7. The force lightning being able to be 'caught' by a lightsaber blade was an idea that came from the EU, first.
8. Force Speed was a power created in the EU.

Edit -

Here's a better list than I can come up with (but that's just C-canon stuff?):

I don't think the Jedi Code as mentioned in the films has anything to do with the EU thing.

Though indeed, GL has always felt free to nab stuff from the EU if he wants it. Why not use good ideas? Still, storylines are a different matter.

I seriously doubt they would take the Thrawn story and adapt it for the movie. Maybe a reference or something, but SW7 will probably have its own script and will not be adaption of an EU story.

I hope the actors survive long enough to make it.

lol

All kidding aside, I'm really excited about it. I hope they don't cast Josh Peck or Shia Labeouf.

you were kidding about hoping they survive? man thats cold.

If they die for real on set and it's captured on screen... cinematic gold, baby.

They already said they weren't going to do the Thrawn Trilogy for Eps 7-9. No need to worry. 😄 We'll get new stories.

Score one for originality, and someone other than GL doing the script.

That was my point really.

Well I always rely on you for the intelligent commentary, queeq.

They have a great screenplay writer working on it and a good director, but I am worried about how rushed this seems. Just before GL sold Lucasfilm to Disney, he stated definitively there would be no sequels, RoTJ ended his story. Then he sells LF to Disney and within a month or so they announce there will be sequels to the main movies and even side projects starring characters from the movies?!? The side projects I understand, but how could they come up with another trilogy of movies within weeks of purchasing the franchise? And if they didn't have a story arch already but just knew they wanted to make another trilogy, that reeks of profit making, shareholders, and focus groups making the decision.

Within weeks? Announcing they'll make more movies is not the same thing as having a screenplay written.

And of course it's about profits. Why do you think bought the franchise?

rumors are about concerning a return of ian mcdiarmid. if this is confirmed you folks wont be seeing much of me anymore as my interest in SW will completely bottom out.

Sequels based on profits.
I have a bad feeling about this.

As a force ghost. It's only a rumor but why is that such a bad thing ?

Because it's rehashing and recycling a character that's been killed and finalized simply for the sake of fanservice. It's both an incredibly obvious grasp for dollars and a horrendous slap in the face to an awesome character from the originals. McDiarmid's even older now, his character has been dead for over 30 years, and the prequels have shown us what overexposure and fanservice can do. And given that the intense resentment for everything prequel is well established in popular culture now, that they would even consider something like this is indicative of just how little even a brand new company and team seems to care. There's also word that his ghost may be training a "secret apprentice" of some sort. Because that's new.

Maybe with the absolute pinnacle of brilliant writing and directing this could work, but in all likelihood, it won't. Hopefully this is all just a rumor, and if his ghost is in the film, hopefully it'll be a very short cameo, like in a vision or dream or something.
