Let's remember when Galactus faced Scryer and the Other, or against the Galactus Engine to see the level of Galactus actual battle prowess. Even Uatu has vastly better showings than T&A, and there was even a Watcher among the Proemial Gods...
But I'll readily admit that the comparision passing by Tyrant/Galactus/Thanos is pretty streched out. I'm pretty much just mentioning it because they are cosmic characters and they've faced Surfer.
I can't follow the logic you're trying to use, tho.
Plot devices are just that. Devices used in plot that allow a character to achieve things needed for the plot to progress. If a plot permits (as stretched as it is), Aunt May should be able to one shot the The Living Tribunal.
Tyrant beat Galan via plot device as well, IIRC. He wasn't hurt by Thanos' blast, his armor was broken and he was flung, but that's it. And I agree, Galactus is pretty badass when he fights for real but there is little we can get from a comparison (with regards to this fight) between Tyrant/Thanos/Galactus without resorting to low showings cherry picking and ignoring tons of context and PIS.
Also, I'd put SBP (non GA) about the same level as Thanos, tbh. And T&A would downright rapestompmassacresodomize Thanos. The same would occur here with SBP.
