What I don't get is... Why is this an event? This arc had so much in common with other Blackbolt and other Thanos stories that it could've been composed of previous history arcs, none of which were events. The Builders part was unique, but since it divided the focus of the event... Wasn't it more like a concurrent plot of a regular story arc?
I know the answer is "events sell more", and that this one certainly won't go down into history like the sh_tfest that was Age of Ultron... But still, it felt too much like previous stories to strike me as a meaningful event.
After a decent start, it was a lackluster second half, and as said above it didn't really feel like an event anymore.
The whole thing of dividing between the Builders and Thanos wasn't really successful. The Builders felt like the far bigger threat, yet later on they are defeated almost too easily. They assemble an uber-powerful Avengers lineup, but they barely feel used. And the fight with Thanos seemed like an anti-climax because Thanos' lackeys handled half of it. Then Thanos gets taken out in one panel by somebody else and suddenly Thane is the new cosmic despot on the block. A big feeling of being rushed all round.
Not terrible by a long shot, but disappointing.

It looks like Thanos will be taking on the Annihilators in his up coming graphic novel and beating the crap out of them according to Jim Starlin
yes, they make an appearance. Thanos also rekindles his association with Adam Warlock, even though he's dead. That's never a hindrance. The Guardians of the Galaxy also have a cameo. You'll see Ronan, Gladiator, Beta Ray Bill. Ikon and Quasar. The Silver Surfer comes in with them. Funny story, actually. Walt Simonson was very instrumental in my coming back to Marvel. Halfway through this story, Thanos has a confrontation with the Annihilators, and I started feeling terrible because I was treating Beta Ray Bill so badly. I knew I'd be seeing [Walt] in Baltimore in a few days, and I didn't know what to do about it. The only consolation I had when I finally talked to him was to say, "I treat Ronan a lot worse."
They're dealing with Thanos. Everybody gets beat up. He doesn't play too gently. Ronan has it the worst though. That said it's mainly Thanos' and Adam Warlock's story.

Lol.
Now he's just trolling.
You don't know anything about this guy," he says of Thanos' appeal. "He just looks cool."
For Wacker, Thanos is a throwback to the Marvel storytelling of 50 years ago, when there was a certain lack of nuance between heroes and villains and "bad guys twirled their mustaches," he says.
"He's just an evil guy. He wants to rule over things. He wants power. It's just so over the top and operatic — it's as if Shakespeare wrote an opera." Steven Wacker-
Steve Wacker's comments make me wonder if he's ever read a Thanos story by me beyond the Infinity Gauntlet." Jim Starlin-
Lmao... Starlin only returns to Marvel to correct bullshit regarding Thanos. Annihilation? Cool. Thanos Imperative? Cool. Thanos rising? Meh... Thanos: Son of Titan? Oh hell no. Time to right the ship again... lol.

i agree with this almost completely. i also think like galan, 2 more issues could have really helped. it did feel rushed, and the end of the builders was too quick. not only that, but at the end, black swan basically craps all over the builders, laughing at them as a threat. that really undermined them in my eyes. the last battle with thanos was ok, but thor was the only one who really got air time. would have loved a hulk/hype/thor triple team with some meat. hulk was taken out WAYYYYYY too easily by someone who couldn't even take out cage. 😐
thane was a convenient way to end the story. i also wasn't crazy about how easily strange was worked by the ebony maw. coolest character in the arc though, imo. i did like the black dwarf battle. glads came across as quite cool. i really had a laugh though--black dwarf was chased away by panther 1on1, and here he was fighting glads and ronan and company for several panels. 😂 weird.
i think my favourite single scene was the meeting between black swan and thanos. i loved when he refused to free her. gave her a lot of street cred imo.
it really did start off awesomely. wish it would have completely followed through. overall i def enjoyed it--just not quite what it could have been imo.
btw--could it have been the mapmakers who laid out lt? or maybe rabum alal?? hmm...
