Let's all remember how our feet trembled with Captain America's iconic villains Armin Zola and Crossbones. The successful and brilliant Mandarin, the charismatic Malekith, etc.

Iron Man and Cap have a somewhat boring rogues gallery to begin with. Thor has a better one already but it's not being treated very well in the adaptations.

^ The best MCU films have actually come from the Thor franchise: Namely Loki and Hela. But Kurse was also cool for his limited function. And Sutur (though just a cameo) was a nice spectacle.

Red Skull was good. Too bad we never saw him again. Same with Abomination.

Certainly if we compare first phases the MCU villains were miles better than the DCEU. But MCU's villains got worse after that, so the DCEU has plenty of time, and not too much effort needed tbh, to catch up.

Because it's more comparable to Batman, Superman and Spider-Man than to Cap and Hulk (Marvel's most famous first phase characters).

Now I'm not trying to take away from Wonder Woman's success. Obviously if it sucked it wouldn't have made anywhere close to as much as it did.

But I do think audiences were crying out and waiting for a female lead superhero film (just like they were crying out for a Spider-Man movie 15 years ago), and Wonder Woman is bar none the most famous and most iconic female superhero name.

Besides, most of the current hits aren't A list, but obscure, smaller characters.

It's not their fault, but you need to notice the obvious before harping on about their first 4 films trashing the first 4 MCU films at the box office.

Like if Marvel had the rights to Spider-Man and the X-Men, and made those films in their first phase, you know they obviously would have grossed in the $700mill to $900mill range without even trying.

Flash and Aquaman are not in the A-List range, but they are using Justice League to promote them first.
We all remember what happened in their first attempt to launch a shared cinematic universe with a B-Lister with Green Lantern. They just assumed it would be easy after what Marvel did, but after GL they realized it's not as easy as it looks Lol.

^ Ultron had some good lines, and was intimidating in that scene where he just flipped and chopped Klaw's arm off. But he ultimately fell flat by his origin being rushed IMO.

He’s programmed for peacekeeping and peace can never truly be attained in the human world. He sees that humanity is doomed as soon as he’s born. Ultron’s line “you want to protect the world, but you don’t want it to change” sums up his beef with the Avengers PERFECTLY.

And then the exchange between Ultron and Vision at the end in the forest is the ribbon that ties everything together. Vision acknowledges that Ultron is correct, humanity is indeed doomed. But then Vision’s line “a thing isn’t beautiful because it lasts” sums up what the Avengers are about PERFECTLY.

Age of Ultron is almost Shakespearean with deeper themes than most care to analyze.

@ Firefly Like I already said, I probably would have appreciated Ultron as a villain and AOU as a film, a lot more had his origin not been unnecessarily rushed.

Apparently the villain in this is really bad.

That was evident when they chose to use Steppenwolf as the main villain.
