As much as it's hard for me to admit, because the cgi was so much and just made it look terrible, I enjoyed the movie. And I think it's because it was a lot of over the top junk, and cgi. It didn't try to bring itself down to realism. Marvel movies are good, and better, and awesome but they strive for more realistic tones a lot, and this just felt like it went nope, comic book time.
Spoiler:
And Superman felt like... Superman. Not strength or speed or any of that but his personality. After the initial revive and craziness that is. He wasn't brooding, wasn't depressed, and dark. He was a ray of light.
Flash though is what really made the movie for me. He made it funny, and he was really enjoyable to watch. The story wasn't terrible, and the pacing seemed fine to me. Compared to any of the rest of the DCEU movies I've seen (I haven't watched Wonder Woman yet) it's easily the best. I'd rate it like B-.
Though to be fair, my outlook on it could just be that I expected something as terrible, and droll, and stupid as BvS and am just pleasantly surprised that it wasn't and so I'm liking it more than I should. But I did genuinely laugh at things.
Ben Affleck doesn't seem to have the longevity of playing Batman in him, so however well this film does the Batman character will ultimately need to be recast.
Story-wise they could pull it off with Flash time travelling to bring in Jake Gyllenhaal as the young Batman.
Or just pull a Bruce Banner and replace Ed Norton with Mark Ruffalo type move.

Would prefer the time travel thing or some other sort of soft reboot.
Because if they simply recast then Batman has to stay older.
If Affleck has to go, then I’d prefer a fresh new take on the character.
Originally posted by Darth ThorThe Batman character would need to stay older, but the actor cast can be younger. Get an actor that can play old, make up and a little hair dye is good enough

Saw this last night.
IMO I think it has unfairly pulled a 30-40% score. I found it very entertaining as a comic fan and would place it no less than the 60% range.
Good:
Superman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and Batfleck were standouts.
Superman had a great return. Clark fanboys should love it.
Cyborg was fantastic IMO and did a lot to ground the movie through the eyes of the audience. Very good actor taking this character from nothing here.
Aquaman was a great take on the character but needed more room for development.
Wondy was true to her character - moreso than in her own movie imo which I found boring as f**k
Flash was not as annoying as I thought he would be - but only had a couple of ok scenes.
Character interactions are very true between the main characters.
There is a great action sequence midway though the film.
Music was pretty good IMO. much better than previous DC stuff.
Bad:
Sloppy tone, bland simplistic script, and awful pacing. Did they rush this film or what? You can really tell two directors worked on this mess.
Steppenwolf....UGH awful videogame character that really harmed this movie. If you take Hela for instance and compare these two. Where she worked to connect you to her motivations as a villian....This guy sucked. You can really tell he is a CGI character, from his movements to his facial animation and man is he crappy.
He did more to take away any suspension of disbelief than any other bad CGI in the film. Terrible work DC.
Plot - very boring predictable stuff you have seen a million times before.
Run time - this film should have been 2:45 at a minimum due to how much they needed to establish.
Overall I did enjoy this. Although the quality is nowhere near Marvels stuff, this was the best step in the right direction for DC.
Man that CGI though...ugh.
Lol DC fans are screaming at Joss Whedon for liking a tweet that calls Steppenwolf the worst villain of all time
