MOS had mixed reception but turned out to be a fairly popular film. WW was clearly very popular.

The other 2 however had pretty poor mutilpliers and were poorly received on top.

MCU Phase I on the other hand had 3/5 films which were really well received and all became very popular characters. The only solo franchise that could be considered not doing well wasTIH but that had to fight the stench of Hulk just 5 years prior.

So all that prior goodwill (without the Iconic names) lead to Avengers being the box office beast it was.

So sure the DCEU hasn't been a complete failure, and has had some wins, but let's not pretend it compares at all to the triumph and game changer that was Marvel's Phase I.

The Avengers is what really set the MCU off.

The build up payed off big time.

Mos multiplier isnt that much better. Suicide squad's box office performance was a lot more impressive.

Even ignoring Icons, Its a bad comparison due to the international market having expanded massively. And if we compare just domestic (accounting for inflation of course), then IM1 and IM2 actually outsold MOS and BvS, which is kind of insane.

Also forgot, Marvel was an independent company pre-Avengers. It didn't have a massive machine like Disney backing it. WB has always been behind DC films.

So wow, no icons, no Disney. MCU Phase I was unprecedented.

Paramount distributed 4 of the phase 1 films.

They have to be cutting themselves after losing the films to Disney.

Distributing is just a part of the process. Marvel used to produce and market those films themselves.

Yeah. But like I said, money talks in this industry and when it,comes to something big like the big 2 comic industries, there will be comparisons. I posted the tweets and the overall box office of the two and so far DCEU is killing it. Should it have made more, sure, but,DCEU is in the lead.

If we ignore context then sure. Force Awakens is way bigger than the Original Stat Wars movies as well, if we ignore context.

Edit- But also Quan's right. DCEU's not ahead. If you want to ignore context and just compare numbers then you can't just compare Phase I's and say they're ahead Lol

When box office reports the numbers there is hardly any context. When they report something like Avatar or TFA, they very rarely go back to Star Wars or Titanic, because the current landscape of the box office is vastly different than if was in the 70s or 90s. Movies generally played longer, had fewer competition, etc... Same goes with Gone With The Wind. You're stuck in the past. 😂
