im "trolling" an imaginary character by pointing out the fact that was factually ineffectual in accomplishing anything positive toward the final goal than offering an explosive arrow.
sure he pushed the plot forward A LOT by screwing up and making horrible decisions despite even his own best advice. but this is hardly relevant to his usefulness. and then he got himself cornered via bad planning and rage quit.

You say you're pointing out Van Zan's tactical failures. That's all fine and good. van Zan was never supposed to be a paragon. He was meant to be impulsive, driven irrational by his hunt for GIANT ANTHROPOPHAGIC DRAGONS. His purpose in the film was to give Quinn drive. If you want to say he made mistakes, fine.
That DOES NOT give you the excuse to say that Van Zan is so stupid that he would throw himself in A WOODCHIPPER. It's an obvious troll scenario so ridiculous that only somebody of extreme butthurt would try to support it.
