Just because something is Rated R doesn't mean its going to be good.

...making a movie rated R can be just as much of a marketing decision as making a movie PG-13.
We could babble about this all day. I was just illustrating a point.

Apparently Universal is "very pleased" with the dvd sales of Riddick.
Diesel says [they're] keen for a follow-up 4th.
Can't believe I ignored this movie for so long. Finally watched it, and while not a "great film", per se, Riddick the man, the survivor, the incredibly stealthy, humorously lethal philosopher, is definitely, monstrously kick-ass.
Predatory life forms are best served when Riddick is not marooned on their planet.
Originally posted by Patient_LeechI think the reason I ignored this film for so long was because I didn't particularly like Chronicles. But "Riddick" brings him back to basics...which I understand many people thought was more/less a Pitch-Black redux...and to a certain degree, it was. But Richard (love the first name) is at his best in these raw survival situations. You just don't know what the guy is gonna do next, and he's got better quotables than Scwarzeneggar's T-800.
The director's cut isn't much different in a lot of ways, but it has a little more with the Necromongers/Vaako and the ending sets up for the next film(s). The ending is so perfect.. great cliffhanger. To me it makes it play out much better and fits it better with the rest of the series.

Yeah, the first 30-40 minutes of the film are fantastic. Beautifully dark pulp science fiction.
