List of the special features on the blu-ray/DVD:
They don't mention that it'll have 10 extra minutes for the DC, but I've read that elsewhere. And I assume there will be some deleted scenes, too.

Maybe the extra 10 minutes of footage will be the deleted scenes put into the feature?

Well, they wouldn't be deleted scenes if they're put back into the feature, now would they? At that link he said that the original cut of the film was 2h20m and his contract was for a 2-hour picture. He said the DC will have 10 extra minutes. You do the math.
As big a fan as I am, I'm still unclear as to how he got his eyes exactly. But I think they're keeping it a somewhat ambiguous and confused issue on purpose. Not sure if he bought 'em for 20 menthol cools or if Shirah endowed him with the abilities (or maybe a combination of the two). Either way, gives the character more mystery. Maybe they're saving it for a larger reveal later on in the series.

The thing is not everyone is a gamer.
Well it happens in the game. And the game was awesome enough to be canon.

I like this. Were his eyes the process of mad doctor surgery or something more in the form of mystical shamanism? We will never know until the question is answered.
In the game the wiseman was living somewhere no human should be able to survive in. High radioactivity and creatures lurking around who had become horrific mutants. And Riddick's descent into the area was personally a sacrificial journey into destiny.
I preferred to accept both possibilities considering in this far future nobody else has been able to mimic this attribute.
And it's not like supernatural occurrences don't exist in this medium with Necromongers and Furyans running around doing what they do.
Yeah, I don't know if they're ever going to reveal the true origin of his eyes. I kind of suspect that there might be a larger reveal and explanation once he becomes more in tune with his Furyan nature. But for now I like the mystery.
Some concept art from Vance Kovacs (Supposedly there's more on his website, but I couldn't find it)...
Just watched the Director's Cut and holy shit-beans it was more like what I was expecting!! It includes a much more appropriate explanation about what happened between Riddick and the Necros. And the ending is MUCH more like what I was expecting as far as a cliffhanger... sooo good. I'll post a couple teasing screencaps real quick...
We're at The Threshold...
