I like how they just assume that only comicbook fans are the ones who hated the twist. I know people who aren't comic book fans who did not like the twist at all because they were anticipating the Mandarin after all the great build up from the trailers and the first act of IM 3. Let's face it, Kingsley's Mandarin was also a box office draw because he's Ben #### Kingsley. I was going to see IM3 whether or not they had Mandarin as a villain, but they marketed Mandarin so I was stoked about this last IM3 because of this reason. A lot of people were excited as well, including non-comic book fans.
Yeah, one of my friends (who knows nothing about comics and I mean nothing) hated the Mandarin character.

Transformers 2 and Spider-Man 3?Not that IM3 is any where close to being as bad as them. But point is as bad asd they were they still shitted all over the box office. I don't think SM3 even had 3D showings at that time.
I don't even know anyone whose rushing off to see this for a second time.
A lot of people were disappointed. At least half the people commenting here. You can't just tell them all to be quiet.
You think we wanted to be disappointed? I sure didn't. I was really hyped for this and rushed to watch it first day it was out.
They can be disappointed. But they have to stop painting this disappointment as the accepted reality among the audience. Eventually it distorts reality.
I've said this in the past about the Star Wars prequels; how do three films combine to gross almost $2.5 billion worldwide and NO ONE likes them? - Because a extremely vocal minority made that perception a reality. So the media just continues to refer to the prequels as disappointing to fans, despite the fact these 'disappointed' fans came back to each film as they were released, bought the DVDs in record numbers, then bought the blu-rays in even bigger numbers...and so on.
I've seen IM3 twice, the second time with my 13 years old nephew and he loved it. He thought the Mandarin twist was funny, as he had a hard time taking him seriously as a villain going in, thinking he took his name from the restaurant chain. 😂 Non hardcore fans are the majority audience for this.

Well I agree with you about the Prequels 😛
It's not true at all that nobody liked/loved them. I did and I know many people who did also.
But then there's no point in me denying that many people hate them too. Really never understood why though. I personally think they were just expecting too much. The prequels had a lot to live up to. That kind of weight on it's shoulders leads to some real hate Lol.
But you can't deny some films will just do well due to the quality of it's predecessor(s). Spider-Man 3 and Transformers 2 are prime examples of that.

I'm a comic book fan and i loved the twist 😐
and yes i've seen what he actually looks like in the comics
seriously all they had to do was instead of going with the old Fu Manchu style, Just go with how Matt Fraction had him portrayed in this run

No i think it just got more audience because of the success of it's predecessor and avengers.

I meant to say is that it is more likely that it sold more tickets and made more money because of the success of Avengers and IM2 😉

A bit of a strange argument considering you keep repeating the main reason for TDK doing well (also surpassing a Billion) was due to the Heath Ledger's death hype.
Hype is hype. Whether it's due to someone dying, or whether it's due to the quality and success of previous movies.
And some people will be dragged to watch it again by friends who are taken in by the hype but haven't seen it themselves yet.
Don't get me wrong, I think IM3 was a decent movie. Doesn't mean I liked the stupid twist, or wasn't in the least bit disappointed.
Forget Gross Earnings. To me Star Trek's the movie of the year so far. That didn't disappoint. And I will watch that again. But I'm not going to the cinema to watch IM3 again unless someone drags me there. Whilst I'll probably be the one dragging people to Star Trek.

I surrender. your logic is just too good to argue with. No one went to see Iron Man 3 twice. And if they DID, it was because someone dragged them. Twice. Lol. 😆

Not quite what I said, but never mind. I know you get overly defensive when it comes to Marvel movies.

If you rewatch the Originals now you can definitely see how flawed they were and also that the PT trilogy isn't too far far in story telling quality minus Empire.
In fact my second favorite Film of the series comes from the PT with ROTS, yes I liked better than a New Hope.
IM3 is not SM 3. They are clearly at two different ends of the spectrum in terms of quality.
IM3 is an incredibly good movie.
The twist is kind of a hate or don't care thing. It was incredibly funny.
I've heard so many different ways it's been put but I think the best way to describe it is it was a poor decision executed extremely well within the confines of the story they told but with little to no pay-off for what you got.
Ben Kingselys character's potential was much better than what Guy Pearce offered. Had the twist led to a much better pay-off in the story no one would have cared.
