Voldemort has demonstrated far more powerful energy than that. Beating a wizard who also lost to Saruman isn't impressive it is to be expected.

Saruman had to struggle with Gandalf the Grey; Sauron the Disembodied didn't. He just radiated energy forever until Gandalf caved, then chucked him across the room like a doll.

Saruman beat him nonetheless. Witch King broke Gandalf the White's staff so who cares if Sauron beat him. This is the same wizard who hid up a tree and threw fiery pine cones at his enemies.
