Just take the L and move on.

You should take your own advice on this one I think. The books don't really count as part of the movie franchise, as they came out before the movies, so the movies are part of the book franchise. No doubt you'll ignore this, state that Harry Potter 'rulz' then proceed to throw an immature insult in my direction. That's okay with me because I'm not a teenager.

Not much in it which is saying something given how much longer SW has had to generate it's wealth

There's no understating the effect that Harry Potter had for a decade and a half. As a cultural phenomenon, it's much more potent and powerful.

Suppose it's a generational thing...I've got friends who are only 5 or 6 years younger than me but were young enough when Harry Potter was released to be caught up in it. I was in 18 in 1997 when the 1st book was released and so for me it has absolutely no relevance to me...I've never read any of the books and I've only watched the last movie.

Star Wars, on the other hand...Well I had just about every toy going when I was between 5 and 10 years old...My parents must have spent hundreds on them.

The question is will Harry Potter still be having an influence on pop culture on 35 years? Suppose that depends whether JK Rowling writes any more.

I'm of the mind that it won't. Not that Star Wars is inherently superior to Potter (the prequels dashed that chance forever), but the era in which Star Wars was initially released helped secure its place. It was the right style and story told in the right time. If it had been released in another era it likely wouldn't have had the same impact, certainly not if it was a later one. Potter will be remembered, but not as a film series.

I think in the long run the books will get all the credit and the films will be sidelined in to comparable obscurity.

As they deserve to be, because I never thought they were very good.

Potter wins in just the movie sales and overall Potter still wins overall. Accept it.

If Potter wins overall as you say, then why do you feel the need to talk about just the movie sales? It's as though you're trying to compensate for something. (Like, I don't know, the fact that Star Wars beats Harry Potter.) Read your original post, then look at the links you posted, finally develop some mathematic skills and social skills and you will see who comes out on top, you'll also be able to hold a dignified debate online.
