You people have really high expectations. This isn't HBO. The episode was well made, well acted and engaging.
this is a television show that's supposed to be set in the same world as huge blockbuster films, yet it's a huge step down in quality in nearly every conceivable aspect of production.
If the films didn't exist, i'd probably think this was a good "Smallville" quality series, but the movies DO exist, and Smallville quality isn't going to cut it... i have to judge this show based on the fact that it supposedly exists in the same world as those movies.
Don't give me the "this isn't HBO" excuse... this is phucking Disney we're talking about; they have more money than HBO can ever dream of, and there are shows of much higher quality (AMC & FX) that don't have the deep pockets of Disney.
This show is an all around failure.
Maybe DC are doing the right thing keeping the Movies and Tv Universes separate.
Maybe that has limited AOS. On the other hand I doubt I would watch this show if it wasn't part of the shared Universe.
Btw The Flash actually has about the same ratings as AOS right now. Obviously Flash has just started and that will go down, but Flash is on frigging CW with no Big Blockbuster connection.

HBO/AMC shows have significantly higher budgets than ABC shows. Also, ABC shows are subject to the FCC and generally must appeal to kids and adults alike. I'm not making excuses, but there's a reason all the emmy nominees are HBO or Netflix shows
Cable has free artistic reign while network television is heavily restricted.
Right now, MAOS is at Arrow and Flash level in terms of quality. People just have unrealistic expectations because its marvel.
Ratings down again this week. They've been dropping every single week since the season began. Right now it's only getting about half a million more viewers than The Flash on CW.
I think their storytelling is on track. Just think they need to improve on their characters tbh. People need to Love the characters to want to tune in every week.
Of course they can always have appearances by people like Mark Ruffalo or Chris Hemsworth to get the ratings up again.

No they aren't... Ratings increased from 4.32 million last week to 4.64 million this week. Slight increase is progress.

Huh.. Wiki has it at 4.73 last week, and 4.70 this week:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Agents_of_S.H.I.E.L.D._episodes#Season_2_.282014.29
The figures usually aren't exact and get revised up or down by 0.5'sh.
So apparently this show go good recently so I'm thinking I might tune into it at some point.
