The comment was because his crew was in stasis tubes and when he shut down the Enterprise's life-support systems, they'd survive in those tubes as they have survived for early 300 years, in stasis.

I am not including Khan's Dreadnaught either but your desperate attempts to use his status in the empire as a means to garner some advantage in a one on one fight demonstrates the validity in my case.
