And I don't think it's ever really been explained.

The guy got power from a gamma bomb. He can do whatever he wants.

yes, but it's not energy manipulation. bricks don't need new powers to break physics the way they do.

I wouldn't bat an eyelash if in Hulk's case it was explained as latent energy manipulation due to the source of his powers, but I'm also not surprised he did simply via being the strongest there is.

HHHHMMM, good point. I guess that is the reason he was able to grab energy during this scene and shoot it back at his opponent.

In some cases they do, in others they don't. It all depends on the suspension of disbelief.
It goes against the suspension of disbelief to grab energy without some energy manipulation ability. Hulk has done stuff like that multiple times though. I don't know of any other brick that does that stuff without some sort of explanation or plot device.

But those things are outliers anyway and don't count. Surely Hulk isn't going to grab an energy blast in a forum fight.
