Do people want randomized judges as well? A part of me want to let participants veto a possible judge (to me by PM) if they feel that it's a particularly bad matchup/they have a history together. Though another part of me wonder if it will have any effect at all considering that people who lose will naturally be disappointed with the judges' verdict 😛

There were some issues with more recent showings. I think the one you're referring to, it was similar technology but not the same robot. I may be wrong though. There's a lot to keep up with in comics these days.

If judges aren't above this, we have bigger problems. Randomized is fine. Or just pick three and rotate throughout the tourney so that there's different combos.

So I went back and read that issue. I had read it before, it just didn't click with me the first time.
Here's the deal. That Ultimo was remotely controlled by A.I.M., displayed some tendencies and tricks we've never seen before, and even Tony was talking about how there's different versions and such.
The Ultimo is an alien robot with its own purposes and motivations. I have no doubt that the technology from THE Ultimo was repurposed in some way, but I stand by what I said. NA v2 #17 wasn't Ultimo. It was some similar tech that was adopted by AIM for its own purposes.
I drafted with the intention of it being the issues I mentioned. If we think the New Avengers one was the exact same robot, just evolved further, cool. But I'm unconvinced. In terms of power levels, it's something of a wash. There was 1-2 cool things it did in New Avengers, but none of it would seriously affect my strategy, and I'd rather know I'm working with the real deal.
