Say what you want about Bale (the action sequences were not his fault) but at least he comes across as intimidating.
Can Affleck be intimidating? Not that I've seen. And he has played that sort of role before in Daredevil, so we have a good idea of how he's going to be.
He's not an unknown that we can't judge.

Yeah plus IM was largely an unknown superhero then. The risk could be taken. Batman is just too damn iconic, and the last thing it needs now is a repeat of Clooney, after a decade of great Batman films.
I really hope Affleck is the next Downey, in terms of what he does for Batman, but somehow I seriously doubt it.
