This will be a huge mistake if true. They will lose the younger audience if this happens. One of my biggest pet peeves with DC movies right now is they never seem quite sure what target audience they want to grab. Early Batman and Superman movies were too campy so they did a 180 and portrayed them as gritty characters that people feared. I dont know, but I doubt many parents are going to be taking their young kids to see a Batman that kills his criminals. The more I read and hear about this movie, the more of a mess I fear it'll be.
Michael Keaton's Batman killed people, and people were lined up around the block to see it. I know because when I was six years old I was in one such queue. Hell, even Bale's Batman had a body count.
Going from campy to "gritty" is more a reflection of changes in the comics and the audience than it is some sort of scramble, imo.
