Oh because making profit isn't the same thing as Expectations. Remember The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was considered a disappointment making $700mill WW (considerably more than MOS), and the result of that was Sony rebooting it with Marvel.

The problem with ASM2 wasn’t that it made “only” 700 million but that it made only that much money on its insanely high budget. Worse, it was pretty much universally panned.

^ It was just an example, I'm not suggesting they will reboot the DCEU if this makes $900mill ww. But what studios don't like seeing is the box office going on a downward slope which is what was happening with the Spider-Man series.

So again if BvS makes less than the TDK series then that's not something the studio will like. Especially not when this is DC's 2 biggest names together for the first time.

If this movie doesn't hit 1 billion I'd laugh my ass off. It will as two icons on a global scale can't **** this up that badly even if it's trash.

I have to go with Quan in this, anything gathering Batman and Superman from the first time ever has to explode in the box office or producers will call bs.

^ Don't forget Wonder Woman Lol

I'm sure it will make IM3 numbers even if it's trash (heck IM3 was trash).

If it's really good then it will make Avengers numbers IMO.

I think there is almost no chance this makes more than Avengers. I’ve even got my doubts that it can surpass IM3 TBH.

But, yeah, one billion is the magic number here. Anything less and it will be called a “disappointment” or a “flop”. Anything more and it’s “doing good”.

If could pass IM3 if the film is good. The DCEU does not have the good will of the MCU yet.

But Batman as a character probably has as much good will as Iron Man. And obviously Superman has substantial goodwill as well.

I think he meant something like selling power. eg IM3 wasn't very good, but IM's success in previous films (IM1-2 & A) brought in the crowds on name alone

Yeah It was a typo. If it's good It will pass IM3.

Avengers hype also boosted IM3.

I get that. I'm just pointing out Batman has had just as much selling power on his own. Unless you think people associate that goodwill more with Nolan than with Batman. Or perhaps specifically with Nolan's Batman.

The goodwill of Batman. He is extremely popular.

If MOS was able to do 116 (Or 128 OW counting Wallmart tickets) not too long ago, then I see BVS doing a lot more.

True.

Then where it goes from there will depend on how good it is.

The general public doesn't know the difference. If these two icons can't do better it'll be hilarious.

Even after the MCU movies I would say Batman and Superman are still more popular with the general audience. As far as the characters themselves go.

Dc fans want to prep the excuses. It's who they are. Weaker minds.

New trailer soon hopefully.

Rolling Stone ranks the Super Bowl trailers. BVS #1. 😛

Doubling down on the commercial spirit of the Super Bowl, the evening's only truly creative bit of movie marketing came from WB and Turkish Airlines, who reintroduced fans to the comic book world's two most famous cities via dueling tourism spots. In Gotham, billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) promises that his hometown is safer than you might remember. ("Thanks to a significant grant from Wayne Enterprises," of course.) Across the way in Metropolis, wunderkind entrepreneur Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) declares that Superman's favorite place is "open for business!" Wisely fighting back against the grim aesthetic of the film's trailers, these clever blasts of corporate synergy sparkle with bright colors and heavy dollops of optimism. "There's never been a better time to visit our great city," Wayne says, and these fun — if slightly ominous — ads are enough to make you wish you actually could.
