The point is, geek culture has become pop culture. It'd be one thing to not know the difference 10 years ago. But the way that advertising works nowadays...as I said it's pervasive. I go into the grocery story I see Batman and Superman cereal box stands. I see Marvel stuff plastered everywhere. So yes, if people are paying attention to the world around them they'll probably know the difference.

In fact the MCU suddenly bringing Spider-Man in now, and Batman V Superman coming out will naturally lead to those questions of which characters can mix with who.
The fact that X-Men is Marvel but owned by Fox further confuses the matter IMO.
